Left Handers, also commonly referred to as Southpaws, are the brunt of more than their share of jokes all year long. The world is built for right handers. Examples are everywhere. I was a strong rightie. Which I knew. My DH, youngest daughter are lefties. Now when my daughter does a cartwheel she uses her right foot instead of her left. My mom was a leftie too. Talk about having a hard time for her teaching me how to tie my shoes or crochet or sew. LOL So what I do with my daughter is sit behind to teach her things.

Yippee, kimbers867! This holiday celebrates me! I tested out as a "strong leftie" which I knew. Yes, I've been called a "Southpaw." In third grade, my teacher tried to make me switch my handedness. Every time I picked up my pencil with my left hand, she would rap me across my knuckles very hard with a ruler. Yes, she was abusive. That would never fly today. The only thing she succeeded in doing was in making me be a very neurotic, anxious kid. It was pretty bad and up until that point, I'd absolutely adored school! Anyhoo, my left handedness prevailed. Thanks for telling us about National Left Handers Day.

Woo Hoo PearlGrace! I remember my mom telling me stories how the teacher tried to teach her to write with right hand also. I can't imagine. Thanks for the response.

I'm fairly ambidextrous. more so when I learnt to play the guitar. I write with my right hand, but everything else is split fairly evenly down the middle. as it happens, if the desks you refer to are the ones that attach to a chair, and curve around the body, I have seen a left handed one before.

That is cute, a leftie a rightie or a bothie? I am a bothie! I found out for sure when I broke my right shoulder and collar bone and had to do everything with my left hand for months. My latin teacher decided I had to write everthing with my left hand and could not dictate it to someone else like the other teachers let me. It was midterms and we had to translate a million things. I did it no problem and it was totally legible. Victory!! To this day, the only thing I cannot do with my left hand as well as my right is fine painting ( like a picture) and detailed woodcarving. Pretty much everything else goes. Shalom~Adoniah
