If you could sell your home and have enough to pay off the mortgage and downsize to a smaller home would you? I would love to have that chance again, but I did not want to sell when hubby brought up the idea. 4 families on my street alone sold. I did way too late. Decided to take it off the market after a year. It would be nice to be mortgage free.

No. Mortgage should never be paid by "reducing" house. Company always ask their employee address. Well... There should be other little hard way to pay morgage than selling house.

Thanks for your response. Do tell how one can pay off a mortgage without having to get another loan. I only owe 60,000 and the house can easily sell at 150,000. We no longer have a big family and don't use half the house. I don't mind getting into something nice and cozy. The money we could save when we don't have to pay a mortgage would be a welcome. Selling was the only option I could think of.

I wouldn't do it. I live in the house that belonged to my parents and my grandparents. There are too many memories with this house that money couldn't replace. Since it was in the family I also received it at a better deal. So while I am paying it off still I just could not see doing it.

I can understand your reason. I'd probably feel the same way. We still have our parents house, whom my brother occupy. Everyone else has purchase their own. My grandparents home was sold because it was out of state in the country and when one of her children went back it had been vandalized. What was sad was it was full of antiques: Old potable closets called shifferows, brick gas heaters, rolling pin washer, big iron cabinet that had a drawer for flour, rice and flat table attached, old dinning table with animal claws and so much more. I can understand if they were stolen and sold for profit...but someone took an ax or hatched and destroyed everything. *shaking my head at the thought*
