No Days Off Work and Karoshi Syndrome

For weeks now, our company has been asking us to work on Sundays. I'm not really complaining much because we do earn more in Sunday overtime but the body can only take so much of overwork. Our regular days are Mondays to Saturdays, and with Sundays being added to the work this effectively made our work as daily and NO Days off. We complained to management but all they tell us is that we can not deliver what we are supposed to deliver as a team so everyone has to suffer. Is it our fault that the work hours are so crazy and the environment too cold that a lot of the seasoned copy editors have given up on the job and therefore our output is lesser as a lot of them are already gone? Didn't the management hear about Karoshi Syndrome? It's a sickness that results to death due to overwork and has been credited to a lot of the deaths of young executives all over Japan who have a lot of work hours and virtually no rest days? So, here I am on this blessed Sunday morning rendering work ;O) I guess I should be happy that my next pay check would be bigger than usual but my body's not happy that I had to wake up early and not just sleep in :-( Besides, the text I would be paying would also be higher than usual. Do you have similar complaints or are you blessed with two days off from work?

According to the Bible the third commendment is to keep sabbath day holy. We are told to work six days a week and rest on the seventh day. I am blessed with two days off and sometimes due to work pressure I have to work on my off days. That is why I am now looking for a home based business so that I can keep Sabbath day holy as God has commanded.

Yes, me too. But we have a two-year contract and I have just reached the first year mark so I guess I have another year to wait. I have started with the home jobs, though.

I really feel sorry for you....It is right, human body needs rest and a break from work... Why don't you suggest them , to have every alternate Sunday a holy day...? By this , you will find a way , which would be acceptable , to both the management and the employees... Well, i try to have Sunday as a off day , unless an emergency..

We're blessed with a two-day off from work, and for this week , an extra day because of a holiday. The body is not a machine, it needs rest so that it could be rejuvenated. You can write a letter to top management about this. All of you should sign. This maybe remedied by working by shifts, so that each of you would have some rest. You could prepare a work schedule as an alternative for employees to have sometime off; like some could go to work Sundays and some Saturdays, but they would be doing extra load of work for those on rest day. Every problem has a solution, you have to meet with the management to decide the best way to solve the problem. Good luck.
