If you had a choice of donating to only one charity : children or old-age home

which one would you choose and why. According to me it depends on one's perception towards life and his/her personal decisions. I would donate it to the children fund as I love kids and love to see them happy, not that I don't like aged people but the first donation would be to the children fund and to be fair the next one will surely be to the old-age home. Both organisation needs all the support they can get. What about you, though?

Fair enough. It actually depends on you and one can't say anything to you as you're in such a situation that only one can be helped. It's a matter of choice and any choice is as good as the other one.

donation should be given to both the institutions as both of them need help first of all its the life which matters here wheather its a child or na elder person both of them live, i really can understand that children are innocent they cant work n need help but even old peoples r need help as they have lost their physical energy in earning taking care of their family, brought up their children n made them a good n qualified person , but those childrens in return have given them loneliness n an oldage home, which those parents had never wished in their life seeked any strangers help. n morever oldage is equal to childhood n both of them require help so why not divide the money n donate to both the institutions n help them out to recover .

Yeah, fair enough, but don't you think that if children are brought up in a very cultured way they are less likely to desert their parents and in that way there won't be any need for old-age homes at all. An initiative or soul-searching exercise must be conducted so that no children desert their parents especially when they need them the most. Anyway, I respect your principle of division of charity but to whom would be your first cheque be?

first of all childrens must not leave their parents n parents must leave their childrens but in extreme cases i can understand that coz of circumstances they do this but purposely doing is unforgivable. and it doesnt matter first cheque goes to whom only matters is , is both the institutions r getting help or not.

I like old people but as a primary school teacher I really like to make children happy. I would donate money to help disabled children. It would be wonderful to see them go on a journey to a wonderful destination like Disneyland. All of them would be so excited and it would be a trip that would remember for ever. I like charities for animals first, children second and old people third. It is wonderful when money is given to charity to do worthwhile work.

I agree, every capable citizen of whichever country he/she is in, must donate something to charity regularly. Even if you're incapable of donating something try and spend some time with them as you will be welcome there. It's all about giving something to the society and not always thinking about yourself.

I used to be an elementary school teacher, so of course my heart is with children. But honestly, if faced with this decision I would do a little research and find out which of the two charities had the biggest needs. I would give to the one with the most needs.

That's a fairly good decision of first doing research and then trying to give to the more worthy institution.

I would donate to a children's medical research fund, specifically juvenile diabetes because one of my granddaughter's has Type 1 diabetes and one of my grandsons is starting to show early symptoms so finding a cure for this disease is very important to my family and me.

I appreciate your decision and am sorry to know that your grand-daughter is suffering from diabetes. I hope that a cure for the same will be available soon. Can you tell me more about this illness as I've never heard of it before.

I'd donate to the children. They are our future. I feel for them it matters more. The old-age are living in a home...many children don't even have a place to call their home. I definitely agree with you that all charities need all the funds they can get. I have a 7 year old so maybe that's why my heart stands where it does. I also have an elderly grandmother who lives in a home. She's well taken care of and money isn't even an issue.

Even I would do it, but the question that arises in my mind at this moment is who are the people in the old-age homes. Are these the same who have been in children homes or are these people who have been turned out of their houses? I think the society and it's people are to blame for the old-age homes being so full of people. What do you think?

No, the majority are elderly peoople who simply have gotten much too old, or too ill or too absent-minded to live on their own anymore. They need special care to help remember their meds and to just keep them safe from harming themselves. Before my grandmother went to her home she was forgetting about turning her stove off and forgetting which medications she needed to take or even when her next doctors appointment was. There are also people who live in homes who just don't have the mental compacity to live on their own. Mentally retarded or just incompacitated to a wheelchair permanently. And then there's who can still get around on their own, they're pretty much healthy, they just find it too lonely to live on their own. They live in the nicer homes with little individual apartment rooms, they have tons of activities..such a church services, games, dancing, music, ect. to keep them busy. It really just depends on what specific services are needed. The ones here where I live offer assisted living and then there's nursing homes.

I work with a lot of children and thats the reason I would be inclined to donate to the children. Its not a bias - just a personal decision. If I had the option I would donate to both!

Fair enough. Anybody going for one choice would surely have his/her conscience disturbing him/her.

Yes, like many have said, they have a longer life to live and charity can make them independent individuals even well into their old ages.

Hi shamrack, very well put. It's a very good suggestion. Do some research and give to the deprived organisation.

I would definitely donate to the children's fund. I am a mother who has been blessed with healthy children so my heart goes out to mommies with children with disabilities or illness. Not to say that I don't care about the elderly because they need help also. God Bless rajeshfgh

Yes, I love children too and they're my first choice. But, the choice is not because I only love them, but I think that they deserve it more as they are the future generation and we can have a better tomorrow by helping today's children as far as possible. Again even old people need all the love and care from us, but my first foot forward will be to the children.

without any doubt, i would say children because old age have lived their life's and with many nice memories.. children have not lived their life's and need help to try and even have a future.. Too much suffering amongst children and its not fair..

This is a difficult question, but I'm try my best. For me I will see first who need the donation more. Of course I prefer to donate to the children first, but if everybody donate to the children, what happen to the old-age. So in this case if the old-age need more, I will donate to them...

Fair enough, both of the organisations required equal contributions and I would request everyone to do their bid for them. Thanks.

I will consider both, the old aged as well as the children. They deserve the help and pity. It is not good to partition them.

Yeah, you really can't pick one up. It's really a very tough decision. I guess splitting up the charity is one option.

It would be very difficult to answer your question because both the organizations are dear to my heart and need lots of help and support. But still if had to choose between the two I would choose Old-age home. I'll tell you why. Because many people like you would go for children as they are very lovable and like you said we all would like to see them happy. Plus they represent the future generation. So investing in them is the natural thing to do. But what about those who gave their young days to us, they need care too. They can't be left to die just because their jobs are over and one should not forget- Everyone grows old one day.

Hi Rintis, it's not about children being cute and lovable only, they are going to lead lives like us very soon. If they are looked after and educated properly with good values, I don't think there would be people left in old-age homes. With proper upbringing and values, these children are sure to take good care of their parents/guardians even in their old ages and not let them go to old-age homes. I hope you get my point, it is only my point-of-view, though.

These are both great organizations to give to and it is hard to decide which one. I would like to be able to donate towards both of them if I had the money. If left with only one choice I would probably choose giving to the children's charity. There are many needy elderly people but I feel that their are a lot of children going neglected who need the support of family and money to help them to grow up successfully in life.

Yes, I agree with your, both of the age groups need our attention and care. Children would be the first choice with me too as they have a much longer life than the old-people to live and we can give them a good foundation so that they can look after themselves very soon.

I would like to give out money to children as they are very sweet and innocent. They are very tender and need a proper path and guidance so that they excel in their lives. As for my question, which one would you give charity to if you had only 1 option - children or old-aged people.
