Do you think America should initiate military action against Russia?

Are we the World Cops? Should we be? Wars have been going on for centuries. We are not the answer to every problem in the world. We need to strike a balance between isolationism (It doesn't affect us, let's keep out) and World Policeman. We are a global community, and as world hegemon, we have every right to inflict consequences--if that means that certain privileges in the world community are cut off. On the other hand, I am very uncomfortable about going to war over affairs that don't concern us. We are already in 2 wars. How much more can our Army take?

I wish for once the US government would pay attention to what is happening right here on our own soil instead of doing everybody elses dirty work for them. We are stretched as far as we can be stretched without breaking. Georgia had what it took to break away from Russia in the first place and now they need that kind of power to keep themselves out of Russia again. We need to bring our men and women home and start taking care of our business over here.

No, I don't think so. Taking on another war would be too much even for the American Army. Remember, US army is still actively involved in the wars in the Middle East. Their involvement in these wars is already causing the American people more than 10 billion dollars a month. How much do you think the American economy could support a venture as expensive as such. If the American Army would still involve itself in this situation, I think they would not only make their economy suffer more but their international image as well. They would be viewed as too meddlesome. Also, I don't think the members of the US Army themselves still know what they are fighting for.

it must be a very hard decision to make for the US as there are always people in other countries asking for help in this way, but when the US does enter into it they get treated like a bully, there are people in Iraq who were begging for US help but by a lot the US is the bad guys in this...I don't understand Russia , why are they doing this????

We are not the whole world's arbiters! We've already stuck our poor young men and women in graves they should never have seen because of minding other people's business. Has anyone in Russia or in Georgia asked us to step in? Do we even know what the fight is about? It's a matter of ethnicity, as is so often the case, and those countries must do all they can to work things out. Instead of spending billions on things that we shouldn't stick our noses in, how about helping the poor in this country pull themselves up be providing appropriate education, etc.? How about making every school system the best it can be by taking the incredibly strict limits off spending? How about returning the US to its place as a world leader by improving ourselves?

One of my things about initiating military action against Russia is that it would be very prideful, very wrongheaded to do so. We don't have the might to fend off what Russia might do to us. They can nuke us to Hell and back, and we know it. So whoever takes office in 2009--please heed my words: It won't work. As I said in my original post, we are stretched far beyond our capacity anyway. Let's look at sanctions. We can express our moral outrage against Russia without even thinking of war. Russia and China are off limits to the United States. We cannot hope to win against them, they possess nukes. I hate the idea of a nuclear war. That is a war that no-one would win.

There would probably not even be enough of the planet or its population left to rebuild anything!

i don't think the usa is the wold cops because we have president that don't really understand what they are doing. war is not the only way to have peace. if i have become a president i would stop wars and put money for technology. the world will advance and easy the life of the people. no mater how many war u have with one country, if they don't want to follow u then u have to fight them all the time. the world should have one universal goal. one family, and one goal.

I think the United Nations needs to be the one to be stepping in, not the United States. It is not up to the States to settle every squabble on the planet. I believe that the USA has more than enough on its plate as we speak and it is inappropriate for them to get in to another conflict.

Ohhhh not at all.....war is not a solution to any problem War brings destruction and destruction with it killing all peace . Just think of innocent people who would die as a result . Russian and US are huge countries to fight .......you cant not even imagine how destructive it would be if it happens to be a war . Its like two superpowers with deadly weapons fighting each other ......ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no . Thanku Ganesh

I really don't understand why the US is always waging wars. As Al Gore have said in his Convenient Truth instead of waging wars, US government should start concerning about the environment. Well, as we all know the US is the primary contributor of the global warming which is slowly destroying the world. Because US is the world power it has a big capability of solving this global warming problem and instead of waging wars, US should find ways in making their contribution to global warming less.

While we should'nt act like like world police, We're allies with georgia and we do have a duty to help them. While I think we have a duty to protect our allies, we would also most definetly start world war 3 with an attack against russia. Our presensce in the area would be enough to start a war with them. So I think that indirect aid is the only thing we can do.

I think that whoever is president next should bring the troops home -- these (in my opinion) were not very smart times to start a war -- we should have been more ready for what had happened with us and if it came to it, then go to war when it comes down to starting a war when we arent involved in the first place I say we are NOT the world cops and we should just stop pushing ourselves into everyone elses business
