I have oftentimes heard the adage that the youth are the future of the country. Do you agree with this? In what ways can a young person help in the development of the nation. How about you? When you were young, what have you done to promote youth work?

Whether we like it or not the younger generations ARE indeed our future! When we all move on then the world becomes theirs and so the cycle will continue..... I unfortunately didn't get involved in youth work myself as a child as I was generally one of the ones being helped! lol. But any young person wishing to shape the future of their nation needs firstly to be well informed of the current and predicted issues facing their country. From this point they need to find an affinity with a focus that they feel passionate about and get involved at whatever level they can. The rest will grow from there if they truly maintain this passion and committment and believe they can make a difference!

So true. Though there are now more young people who are getting involved, there are still a lot who are indifferent.

Thank you for the best response. There have been a number of world changes since you posted this discussion and although Obama as the new US President is related to the USA specifically, it is proof that change will be accepted by many. Let us hope that the indifferent youth we have discussed are also inspired by this "change" and will react accordingly!

Guess thats true the youth are and will be our future especially the way technology etc is growing--even my 4yr old grandson uses computers now and is pretty good at it...he'll definitley know a lot more about them and other things than I will..and without that knowledge now the world will be a pretty unacceptable place to live cos there are many of us that don't know a thing about it. When I was younger I never really gave it a thought how to promote youth work..littleowl

I agree that young people nowadays are more knowledgeable with gadgets and such. I have to ask my younger students how to operate it.

Hi diutay, When I was young, I didn't have the opportunity to do aim for what I wanted to do because in my days as female I had to leave education at the age of fifteen and had to fine work to pay for my board at home but I did have many good jobs as the years pass and I worked rally hard an paid my taxes, and now for the young people many of them don't want to work and there are so many opportunities fot them now, so what ever they want to do for the foture they can.
