Second week of school and fund rasier paper work already being sent home!

Now, this is a bit much. I know schools need money and I knew a fund raiser would be coming up, but not THIS soon. This ins only the 2nd full week of school. They have asked parents to put out money for uniforms, supplies, school fees, and they want you to join PTA (which normally I do but we don't have the money this year). I figured that fund raising would start in Sept/Oct, which isn't too bad. That gives you some time to relax. This fundraiser is due back 9/6! I have the school on my Upromise account and I do boxtops for Education. There is now way I am contributing - or even going to ask anyone else to buy anything - for this fundraiser.

I have gotten the PTA thing, but I have not had any fundraisers brought home yet. I am dreading it. My son normally gets about 3 or 4 a year.

I expected the fund raising paperwork, just nto so soon. The stuff they sent home today was passed out in Oct/November at his old school because a lot of it is Christmas items. Something my son reminded me of this evening is that book fair is next week. By not getting him a book, it is almost a punishment because he loves to read. I am going to do that instead of buying things out of the catalog.

I always let my son get books at Book Fair time. Fundraisers I could do without.

I think times are too rough and it is a little unrealistic for them to expect so much to come out of a fundraiser, they should really try to step it up and do some fundraising activites that are beneficial to both school and families. I agreee, I would get a little overwhelmed with all that in my face while just getting through the hectic time of buying school supplies, clothes and whatever lists they send home for you to buy, goodness, even pictures would have me a little stressed with their outrageous costs. I do Upromise too, unfortunately I do not have a credit card for more earnings but i go to the grocery store pretty frequently that adds up. I have a drawer full of Boxtops but have not sent them anywhere yet.

I do have my debit card listed on Upromise as well as my gorcery and CVS cards. Something I forgot about until tonight is that the book fair is next week. I hate when they have all this at the start of the school year.

Most schools are money hungry. My daughter had to go to summer school a few times. she would pass each time after attending a few weeks of it. Our whole summer would be messed up because of it. I told them if she has to go to summer school, there shoudln't be field trips in there. I told them it is a time to study and catch up and not reward the kids for not trying during the whole school year. My daughter was one of those. Needless to say, she was sent home paperwork for a field trip the very first week of summer school. I didn't let her go. The school always wants money for something and they give nothing in return to the students or parents that worked so hard for it for them.

I'm dreading the fundraising. Our school doesn't go back till monday so we haven't gotten anything yet, but last year our oldest was in preschool and she got stuff right away too. I just got done selling pizzas and stuff for the American Cancer Society so I'm hoping that she doesn't bring stuff home right away. I usually try to sell a little but I don't push it with people.

Preschool fund raising? Wow. My son was in a daycare for preschool so we didn't get fund raising information. In fact, the pre-k and kindergartners didn't do fundraisers either. I had forgotten until this evening that the book fair is next week. So I am not going to buy anything from the fundraiser but I will buy him a book - maybe 2 - and possibly one for his class as well. At least that way I know where the money goes. If I had the money I would join the PTA, but we are just to short on cash right now.
