Do you back up your registry on a regular basis?

I do regular backups of the registries on our puters using erunt. Have done so for years. Doe anybody else do so and why? I do it cause its a quick fix in case the restore option gets messed up. But I was talking with a couple of newbie IT guys today when they came by and they looked at me like I was from another planet. They implied that images were the way to go. That takes longer than a registry restore I said. More weird stares. Am I just gettin old? Granted I still do backups too, as it should be. And occasionally even a day 1 restore just for that squeaky clean OS. Well, am I out of it?

Hi darkentity, Ive run across instances where during virus removal, having to disable sys restore, booting in safe mode, ect. that the Sys restore wont allow a restore. And of course, most casual users dont do registry backups.

i'm not an IT guy by any stretch, i'm a computer hardware repairman's equivalent to the old shadetree mechanics, so i can't poke fun at n00b IT's. lol But i don't think you're outdated. You simply found a way to work that you're comfortable with that is fairly easy and much faster than the "new" way. Myself i only do reg backups when i venture into registry. i did, however, do reg backups constantly back in the days of Win9x (which i'm assuming that's when you started as well lol). i've only did an image restore only once. Only to see what it was like.

I dont take backuo of registry regularly. But itis a good way to fix problem. I take backup of registry only before installing new software that is not well known or experimenting with advanced system settings.

Thats a good plan nahidbd. Unfortunately Ive been making backups a lot more since Ive started using Vista. BSOD's are so frequent whenever I do updates. Vista hates 3rd party products. Thanks for the reply. Its appreciated.
