Bad sign?

The company is doing some restructuring. Pretty soon we will be told whether we are being retained, 're-badged' (means working for an outsource company) or let go. I am constantly having to scrounge for work, no projects for a month now, just helping out other people. Boss says he wants to get me involved in claims, get me trained on that, but nothing's happened yet. Bad sign?

What are you waiting for? I'd say start looking now, unless you can afford not to. I'd much rather have some say so in the decision. The only way that you can do that is by looking at other opportunities. As the owner of a company, I can tell you that if your particular position has been slow for a month, means that particular position is possibly one of the first to go. As indicated you would still need to be trained. If this boss was serious about the transition why wouldn't he do it now, when you have a lite workload. They have already given the warning...

probably because I'm 400 miles away from the person who would be training me... at least I hope that's all it is! I may start looking but there's a nice severance package if I get cut too.

We'll see but I'd kind of rather stay.

I'm just suggesting that you not wait for the hammer to drop. First off its possible that it may take some time to find a position. It just always seems easier to find a job when you have one. If you are offered a position you could always negotiate your start date, especially if you know when the final cut or re-structuring of your present company.

Hi there dawnald! Well, have you talked to your boss about it yet? I think that you should make a follow-up. I am sure that you will feel better if you will be updated with regards to whatever your boss told you earlier. You will also know if it is about time that you should consider looking for another work. Good luck dawnald!

We have meetings about it pretty often. He's told us as much as he knows (or as much as he's allowed to)...

Regardless of whether or not it's a good sign, you should be prepared for the worst. Break out the resume, polish it up, and start going on interviews for a new job right now. If something (god forbid) happens and you get let go or you don't like the new outsourced job (or whatever they do with you), then you'll be prepared. Again, I hope that's not the case, but... best be careful. Good luck.

Times are really tough these days. I sure hope that he gets you trained for that area instead of just getting your hopes up. Sometimes things just take time. He might be working on it. I wish you all the Best!

One thing is many companies are not much bothered about the employees welfare. But some are very cautious. But training is a must for every employee in an organisation once in a year atleast. Without training they will be as a wood and the growth of the organisation will be minimal

Hi. That may be a bad sign.. But whatever happens just pray for the best of everything. Just prepare yourself from the many possible things that will happen. Its better to be prepared so that you will not fall into depression when the actual situation has arrived. Good luck in your endeavors. Hoping you the best of everything.
