I went to boil and egg in the microwave this morning thinking "oooo short cut". Boy was I wrong! First off, I forgot to put water in the bowl (gee, what the heck was I doing)and then when I set the timer, instead of putting 5 minutes I put 50. I washed up and did all the morning things and then heard a "BANG". I thought oh crap and went to see what my son may have broken. Wasn't him, my microwave stunk to high heck and I had egg all over the inside of it. Some was cooked and some was not. Any advice for next time I try to blow up an egg? LOL

I don't mean to laugh; but that is pretty funny. It also reminds me of a time I put potato in the microwave. I thought I had set the time for 5 minutes; just like you. Well now sitting on my computer and I start smelling smoke. The smoke alarm starts going off. I just moved in to a new trailer, and I'm trying to take the cover off the smoke alarm, and its not coming off, and the trailer is full of smoke, I finally realize that the smoke alarm is electric so I have to pop the circuit breaker to shut it off. By this time I got neighbors knocking on the door to see if everything is OK.And if they should call the fire department. All this just because I wanted a baked potato. Next time I'll just put it in the oven.

know21, next time you have to buy a microwave, look for one with a button for baked potato. IT works! I never bake one in the oven anymore. It is automatic - you wash and pierce the potato, place it in there on a towel, and hit that button and let it do it's work. I even bake sweet potatoes in mine.

You know after it happened the microwave was so burned inside that I had to go and buy a new one, and that is one of things I looked for, and yes to be honest with you. I do use it quite often.

You didn't say, but did you break the egg into the bowl? I have boiled and poached eggs in my microwave. I put a bowl of water in the microwave with an egg broken into it. I can't remember how many seconds I set it on, since I usually stand and watch it, in case it gets done before I thought it might. To poach an egg, I use a microwave poacher, add a teaspoon of water in each side, add the egg, close, and put into the microwave. BUT, I've also had one of the eggs to explode and go all over my microwave, as well. So, it happens to all of us, I guess, at some time or other. It's really a mess, as you said, to clean up!

I don't remember where I got mine. But it's by Nordic Ware. WalMart may have them; I'm not for sure. But most any place that has microwaves would probably have them, or any kitchen shop that has Nordic Ware. It's just a small 2-egg poacher.

Nope lol didn't break the egg. Just tried to boil it in the shell like I usually do on top of the stove. Where do you get the microwave poachers? Maybe they have an idiots guide for microwaving eggs for me! :D
