I had read another post about how alot of children in todays world disrespect thier parents. Now I am going to ask just one questions to parents and I would very much like your honest answer. Then I would like those of you that aren't parents the same question but phrased differently. For Parents Have you ever told your child to shutup? For non parents Has your parent ever told you to shutup? I am asking these questions for a good reason which will be posted in another post.

Yes, I have and I have my reasons for it, too. Shall we continue or shall I wait for your next post?

This was not to judge anyone I am trying to get honest and true responses from people. I am thinking alot of people on here are parents to young children.

As a parent myself no I have not been as specific as this and used the term "shut up" towards my own children. I am sure that many of us (me included) will use a different context to mean exactly the same thing though! "Be quiet" or "Stop making so much noise and go to sleep!" is ultimately meaning the same thing. It is just a nicer way to say it!

I try to use the saying "inside voices please" this works well. When my other children were young teens I will admit I had told them once or twice to shut up.Until one day my oldest son said to me mom why are you disrespecting me like that, then that put me right in check. Your ways are very nice. and I applaud you for your honesty.

I can actually answer both LOL I have never given birth but I have been a foster parent. No I have never told any child to shut up. And no I've never had a child tell me to shut up nor has my parents ever told me to shut up. I think it's just rude and hateful to tell anyone to shut up. If you don't want to hear what they have to say, then just tell them...I don't want to talk to you right now. There's no reason to be rude and hateful. Yes, I am a mother of 4 children. I have asked my children to use their inside voices many times. If it gets worse then I say "Please be quiet" and if they continue to ignore my requests then I will tell them to "shut up". It is our right as their parents to tell them to shut up if it needs to be said. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I cannot recall my parents ever telling me to shut up, if they did then it is not something that I figured important enough to remember. I have four children and I cannot recall telling any of them to shut up although the words "will you be quiet for a minute please" do get used a lot.
