Social security system greatly serves to meet the contingencies like sickness, maternity, accidents and eventualities like old age and death particularly for poor and general public too.The Governments mobilise social security taxes,in many countries, to run their social security system. How do you rate the social security system of your state?

In my experience, people who are honest and have paid into the scheme through contributions from their wages are treated like dirt. When I was unable to work after breaking my wrist, I had to sign my name no fewer than 32 times to claim sick pay for 3 weeks. I was told by the clerk that I would be financially better provided for if I had not worked prior to the incident. In some cases, people can get more in benefits than they could by working so they are caught in a trap. Our pensioners who have worked hard all their lives and paid their dues are treated appallingly. Therefore, I would say that our system, to some extent, fails those who try to support themselves and offers little incentive to work and save - though it does offer a basic safety net.

Many thanks for nicely responding and sharing your meaningful thoughts and view points.I do agree with you on the systemic limitations in responding to people's needs. There are still much reforms to be done.Citizen/public forums should move the Government to take the right steps to improve the system .Have a nice day!!

I think it is worth talking of India. There is a system collapse. I have heard of the other countries like America Canada,France etc. where is special net work of social security. Even in the case of unemployment there is a fixed criteria to pay subsistence allowance. So that every body is able to make two ends meet. If in India an employment guarantee scheme has been started in villages that guarantee 100 days employment in a year. More is required to be done.
