Use of expired medicines during an eye camp at a private hospital has led to at least eight people losing their sight, following which their relatives Sunday stoned the hospital and blocked traffic in a central Tamil Nadu town in India. And no one bats an eyelid about it.Movie houses are full.People are gleefully attacking their food reading and seeing the news.Politicians in the power are writing poems and finding excuses. What will be the reaction in your place in a situation like this?

This is very sad because people need to be held accountable for their actions. This hospital needs to compensate these people for their negligence.

What kind of compensation would bring back their sight and life Mirita.

I know that there is no compensation that would bring back their sight ,but at least there would be some type of justice. Once a hospital looses money, they would be more careful with other patients. At least some type of monetary compensation will help their families. Maybe the people responsible should go to prision too since they destroyed the lives of these people.

Media will take up the story and it will be in the news for a number of days. Concerned groups will urge the government to look into it. Congress may start an investigation in aid of legislation. But after a while, after the news has ran its course as a seven days wonder, the matter will be forgotten except by those directly affected.

I can understand the agony of those, who lost their sight. It is really a very pathetic state of affairs and the same needs to be highlighted in media etc. so that mis-deeds of the Doctors could be highlighted and many prospective patient could save themselves from the so called eye-camps.

Poor things could have been left with their cataracts in tact with which they were able to earn their daily half or quarter loaf of bread for their entire family.Imagine the plight of the babies who are waiting to be fed. These ugly politicians don't have the word shame in their dictionary including many vital words. But I am sure God will take care of them.

you are just looking at one side of the story. just wait to criticize people. never ever praise their good work. the docs number of successful surgeries never receive any applause. only the wrong receives disgrace. to err is human. why always take up the cudgel?? why not shower flowers at times???

hi balasri! this is a very alarming news. especially to someone like me who uses contact lenses. I used glasses before but due to my sisters wedding i need to use contact lenses, as to look good in the video and in my pictures.. haha` how vain could i be. anyway about your question, i think if ever this would happen. a great uproar would happen. everyone would start pinpointing each other. starting from the people involve until it would reach even the president of our country. I dont know maybe this is really the trend, people keep on blaming others even without realizing that they are as guilty as anyone else. But i am really assured that someone would dig in into this issue until the guilty party has been pinpointed along with the people involve. Which are mostly politicians. who are so eaten up by the power of money, so they sacrifice their principle and other people's just to fulfill their means. But even if this is the case, it is not always an assurance that something is done with this problem, but at least we are comforted by the fact that people would care enough to look into your case.

If this happened in North America, the hospital would probably have to close down, because everyone who went blind, would be suing them for millions and millions of dollars. I coudln't imagine this ever happening in North America, because they know the consequences, and they would not be pretty. The people who have lost their site are all in my prayers.

I will definitely move further to operate or to help those patients to regain their sight or pay the penalty to help their family

Aaam nan Thamildhan. I think that the slaughter houses are better than these Government camps.I feel like sending all the fools who are responsible for this inexcusable stupid, callous blunder to be sent to Siberian labor camps forever.

Wow... your culture has quite a different way of punishing that hospital... and i think that is good in a way... because for sure others will not do the same thing... in my country... if such a thing happens... the media will have a field day about it... and it will be all over the news... and that is the time when government officials will step in... They will conduct a lot of investigations... and when another hot news appears... nothing will be heard from it again... which i think is just sad...
