Hi myLotters! What do you prefer to have as a pet for your child or family member? I am thinking of an aquarium of fish for my child believing that water relaxes our eyes specially for our children's health considering that they have no feathers and fur that may bring lung illness. But an aquarium requires a child to be disciplined in terms of taking care of this poor animals in water. I am forseeing that my child may hold them out of the water until they die.... what do you think is the best pet?

Bea, How old is your child? If he/she is under 3 years old then you cannot expect too much that he/she will understand how to treat a pet well. IF he/she is under 3 years old, he/she will hold the fish out of water because it is interested. My baby boy (1.5 years old also do that). But anyway, you can start to educate him/her on how to have a pet, the sooner the better. I don't know which is the best but I personally will choose puppy because it is cute and can get along with child and can play with him as well. I prefer to have a pet who can interact with him.

He is three going four... I really love to have a pet that may divert his attention to avoid other naughty things. And from there he will learn to love and understand others.

I agree with you. I think you're on the right track. I don't think there's a best or worst in this case. It's up to you which pet do you choose as long as you can direct your child well to meet your objective. Teaching your child to have responsibility on something is always a good thing.

You have to teach them and watch them carefully if they're younger. But I think perhaps a child would prefer a pet they can touch, like a cat or dog. We have fish and cats.
