New Orleans and Hurricane Gustav

I've been watching all the reports on Hurricane Gustav that is due to hit New Orleans very soon. I can't believe that there can be a hurricane more worse that Katrina was. It's just totally out of my realms of possibility. I don't have any friends or family down there, but does anyone else have friends or family in New Orleans? Have you kept in contact with them and are they leaving? What's the real mood in New Orleans? I heard on the news tonight that it was grave, but that's the media report. What is really going on down there? DCMerkle

I believe its definately scarey after seeing what happened with katrina. I do believe there is always a chance of something being far worst then that. A lady had sent a message to the weather channel about what would happen if gustov and hanna combinded would it make it a bigger storm or what would happen. They said that wasnt possible or something along those lines. Gustov seems to want to have a piece of history to his name as well. I hope everyone is evacuating and isnt in any danger. those who stay im sorry to say but i wont feel sorry for them. they have their chance now to get out while they can. if they chose to stay thats on them. im sure everyone feels scared and are in a sort of panic right now but hey if your leaving then you really dont have much to worry about until after the storm passes and you go back to see whats left from where you lived. thats always the worst part of a storm.

From what the news said the are starting evacuating now. And if it was possible for the storms to combine they might not know yet and don't want to strike fear in the hearts of people. But if the know it is a possblility then they shoudl start getting people out now.

SwtJenlove, I was reading an article from the weather channel on the levee's. Many of the levee's aren't up to standards yet and that's after billions of dollars that have been used for the repairs and new pumping stations. I hope that it's not as bad as they say it could be. New Orleans just can't take anymore. DCMerkle

I don't know anyone in New Orleans but my whole family lives in Mississippi. We lived there during Katrina and we lost almost everything we owned in the hurricane. I am scared that now that my family moved a little more inland that they won't evacuate. Though they may not get the flooding this time, there will still be tornadoes galore and those scare me just as bad! I am supposed to go there in a week and I pray that I still can!

moneyandgc, I do hope that your family is safe, The good news is that I heard that the hurricane has been downgraded to a hurricane 3. Let's just hope it stays that way. DCMerkle

Well I an listening to someone right now(not an expert mind you) But they say it could be very very much worse than katrina. I hope this is not true. I have family in Lousianna but not in the direct new Orleans area. It scares me because if it turns I do have close friends in Florida that can be hit by this.

babyangie I hope for your sake and your friends sake that all will be well with your friends in Florida. My grandmother had wanted to move to Florida when her husband retired. He wouldn't do it because he said that it got too wet. If he only knew how right he was. DCMerkle

To everyone that posted in this thread. It seems as if Gustav has not been what was expected, but it was good to see that everything was organized down there and everyone is safe. There's, I think, 3 more coming up from south of Florida. I hope they keep the busses around. They still might need them. DCMerkle
