how do you feel about Singapore?

i understand how you're feeling. why some Singaporeans tend to "look down" on chinese nationals are because of incidents with several black sheep. i for one have met with quite a handful and it's very tiring. One incident was a uni groupmate of mine. He asked me to translate our group meetings discussion to him in mandarin! His reason being he cannot comprehend anything we're talking about. I was surprised as coming into Uni and coming into Singapore requires you to at least pass some english test. But i gave him the benefit of the doubt that perhaps we were speaking a little too fast. Therefore i translated to him. However, for our report research, he gave me a full page of links in relation to our report all in mandarin. He wanted me to read through all his "research" and translate them myself and write out the report. I mean, we have split parts and each has our own individual parts to do. I think it's really asking too much of me. This is the most recent case for me. But definitely not the first. So it's not that i look down on chinese or so but let's just say i'm weary.

hi there angel16108, great to hear that you like singapore. as for friendliness, i guess it's about the same in most metropolitan cities. i won't say people in singapore look down on chinese because the majority is chinese. it's just that singaporeans has this sense of superiority which i can't understand also. i am born and bred in singapore but i don't feel this way. i hope you'll get to meet more friendly singaporeans during your stay here. take care

I don't disagree with you that there are Sporeans who do not like foreigners very much, be they Malaysians, China nationals, Filipinos, Indonesians. But as a foreigner too here, whenever I face that situation, I feel obliged to show that we are not that bad. I keep my mind open and try not to be too sensitive, otherwise it will hurt even more. :) Overall, I'd say that Singapore is a very well-maintained city state, efficient, and green. I like it for its being multicultural too.
