I don't know if I'd be comfortable.

Taking the kids: Save money by trading houses. Generally exchangers pay an annual fee to access home-exchange listings Families also may trade pets, vehicles, use of sports gear, etc. Exchangers can create a contract stipulating what is included. Do you know anyone who has done this? Would you be comfortable trading houses for vacation purposes?

I wouldn't exchange houses or places with anyone. Even though getting $50,000 is enticing. How can we really trust people to be in our homes and not snoop? Or tear our stuff up. I have seen stuff like this on television. trading places, trading spouses, and a few others.

It is not something that I think I would really consider. I guess it works for some people though. The whole trading pets thing is just wrong. Those poor animals would be so confused.

It's like that movie The Holiday, where the 2 girls traded houses for a vacation. When I was a kid we would go up to the Adirondacks and stay in a family's home while they were on their own vacation elsewhere. We did this every year until I was 12, although I don't believe we actually knew the family personally. We never had another family stay in our home while we weren't there, but we lived in a small apartment, so I doubt anyone would want to. I don't think I'd be comfortable letting complete strangers stay in my home. I wouldn't trust them around my belongings or pets. But I do not have the kind of money to replace things if they are broken, and if the other family backs out of the contract after damaging my property. Perhaps if we had a lot of money and a few vacation homes to rent out, things would be different.
