Back to School after the Holidays

September 2, 2008 10:46am CST
Here in the UK have finally arrived at the end of the looooong 6 week summer holiday. A lot of school where I live have gone back today, and my kids go back tomorrow - they had a teachers training day today, otherwise they would have been back today. I don't know how you feel about this, but I need a break. It has been a lovely summer holiday and we have been very busy running around with grandparents, having a lovely holoiday in Spain, etc... but the holiday has seemed never ending just this last week or 2. Personally, I can't wait for 9am tomorrow morning when I can get a few hours peace to concentrate on business! I have had to let everything slide over the summer which I am not happy about :¬( How do you feel? Do you feel relieved to get the kids back to school? Do you feel sorry to see them go back to school? Are you glad to say Bye and then feel lonely or guilty? What are your thoughts/feelings when you leave your kids at school on the first day back after a long school holiday?

Hi Violetdreams, I am looking forward to tomorrow and dreading it at the same time as my son goes to school for the very first time bless, he is also excited and anxious as he says he will miss his old friends from nursery. I know I will have tears from me once I leave him there but I really am not too sure how he will be. I do remember the feelings of relief when my girls were still at school though and the money saving as the school holidays cost a fortune too, all the extra. Enjoy your peace and quiet tomorrow. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie How was your son's first day at school? Was he OK, or quite upset? How were you - upset? Are your son's friends from nursery not going to the same school as him? Must say, I am looking forward spending less now that the kids are all back at school. Violetdreams

Hi Voiletdreams, My son had a wonderful first day at school and was just as excited and happy about going this morning, it is me that is trying to get used to the quiet and empty house. No tears from either, even though I welled up. He is loving it there, but only one friend from his nursery is in his class but he has made new friends already bless. Ellie :D

I love when my kids are home during the summer but it is also nice when they go back just because they seem so bored by the end of summer. We live in Florida and it gets soooo hot and then it rains almost every afternoon for a couple of hours. So then they are stuck inside and all they want to do is play video games which I can't stand. After a while I think they are ready to get back on a schedule and have some continuity.

Lucky you with the hot weather - the summer here has been disgusting... we only had about 10 days of reasonable warmth - suppose we should be grateful for that! My kids have also been soooo bored for the last week or so - definitely time to go back to school. Violetdreams

I feel relieved that my cildren are back at school three of my children went back today and one goes back tomorrow. I also enjoy the break, don't get my wrong i love having my children around but think we all need to have a break from them now and again. I was lucky enough to get a kids free weekend at the begining of the summer holidays when me and my partenr attended his brother wedding in Ireland. My dad took care of the children while we were away. Although my 16 year old was only in school for about an hour today as it was just an intro for six form he doesn't start proper lessons till tomorrow. Its nice when my four eldest are at school as then me and my partner can spend some quailty time with our two year old son.

HI You are so lucky that you have family close by who can help you out when you want a night out or a weekend away. Our family is too far away for us to be able to do anything like that. I'll bet you had a great weekend. How did your 16 year old enjoy sixth form today? Violetdreams

My children go back to school tomorrow as well. Today and yesterday were teacher training days??!! What have they been doing all over the holidays?? My children are going to struggle to get up tomorrow morning, were going to have a practice run this morning! But I didn't wake up until 8am!! Hubby is going to kick me out of bed in the morning when he comes home from his night shift. Children are also going to get up half an hour earlier so we have plenty of time to chill and things to go wrong!! Only need to do the pack ups in the morning, pe bags done, uniforms already out, book bags packed etc. I also work from home and have had a wonderful holiday with the children, they are ready to go back to school, I started to feel sad when I started sorting school things out!! Sad I know. But it will be good to work 6 hours tomorow and earn some good money. I have asked you to be my friend as I think we have a lot in common.

Hey Anne How did it go this morning? Amazingly we had a fairly calm morning around here. They all got up, had breakfast, got dressed and were ready to leave the house on time! No tears at school either - they were really happy to be back - thank good ness. How did it go on your side? Violetdreams

i have no children now ,and i still remember how i am not willing to go to school especially after a long holiday. you know ,at home ,children have enorgh time for having a rest ,for playing games ,they have more freedom than at school.so ,how to make the children be happy to go to school after a long holiday is thing that is difficult but must to do .oherwise, children maybe dislike school any more ,it is harmful for their perference .

For the last two weeks of the holidays all I could think of was how hard it was going to be for them to go back after six weeks. I think actually I was more upset than them when Tuesday came and it was time to go back, they were pretty cool about it. I loved having them home, I always love having them home. I think the 6 weeks hols are my favourite time of the year and I always get the blues for a while when they go back. I still have my daughter home with me though for another year so it is not all bad!
