Hi all, i really need some opinion from all of you here. I wanted to buy a new notebook that is lghter and smaller than my previous ones. It's for enabling me carry it around as i need to travel frequently. Right now i'm torn between Compaq Presario CQ20 and Acer Aspire 2920. Both of them has 12" screen display, very cool and sleek design. I'm not interested in other brands due to warranty issues. The salesman recommend me the CQ20 as he claims that Acers tend to have problems. But my sister don't recommend me buying compaq as hers have battery lifetime issue and the temperature is quite high after some time. I can't find any review for the Compaq CQ20, but the Acer review gives it a 4 out of 5 stars. Any of you has ever used Compaq or Acer notebook can give me your experience in using them?

I have a 3-year old ACER extensa with 1.6Ghz and 512Mb ram. I have not experienced any major problems with it, except for some virus issues. My ACER is still good except the battery has now only 1 hour charge. Anyway I am now very happy with my Macbook with Intel core2duo 2.4ghz and 2GB ram.

thanks for sharing your experience. Maybe the overheating is not an issue if you don't live in the tropical area. I'm not sure.. I wish i had a Mac..

I have been using an Acer Aspire for the past 2 years and it has its pros and cons. It's a pretty light model and the Acer software that comes with it is pretty easy to use. My model has an integrated 1.3 MP webcam which is pretty good. I actually like my laptop a lot except for the fact that it's old and a bit slow now. One thing you have to watch out for if you're going to buy an Acer is its tendency to overheat. That's one of the downsides of Acer. Last year, I was playing a game on my laptop when all of a sudden it just shut off. It kept happening and I couldn't figure out why until it was too late. I had it checked at a service center and to my surprise, the RAM slot in the motherboard was fried. You just have to be careful when it gets a bit hot.

i never use either compaq or acer notebook yet. but a friend of mine have an old type of compaq and it's reliable enough, have long life and my friend never experience problems with her notebook. another friend use new type of acer and he is contented with the performance of the notebook. so, i think both have similar quality. anyway, it is supposed that fujitsu is the best and most durable notebook. but as you won't consider other brands due to warranty issues, so it's just for your information.

Thanks for sharing. Regarding the warranty, most of the computer shop around my town sell this two brands only. If i buy other brand, i might have to go to another town. So it's very inconvenient as i'm quite busy.. However, nice of you to recommend fujitsu though.
