Our young hound dog,(2yrs.) finally acts like a hound should. She lays outside on the porch in the sun. We had just about given up on her settling down and are very relieved to see this. Have any of you had dogs who took over two years to start showing theier breed traits?

Hounds are not a lazy breed. They are very high energy and driven. What breed is your hound? My husband and I are third generation coonhound fanciers. Also, hounds tend to take up to 2 yrs to lose that excitable 'puppy-hood' that can soooo drive you crazy. ;)

We were told she was a weaton hound but her color is different, blond, with blaze on face. She's just over 40 lbs and the most loving dog we've ever had. She also is very stuborn and goal orinated as all hounds are. Our last dog was a german shorthair and he was not into people at all, he was an outside dog by his own choice. He was also the cleanest dog we've had. He house broke himself. We had him 14 years.

A wheaton is a terrier. Maybe she's a hound/wheaton mix? Wheatons are usually blonde.
