do you address your parents by name of mom and dad etc?

My Dad is passed away but up until the time he passed away I always called him Dad. To me that is who he is. My Mom is 87 years old and I am 58 and I still call her Mom. She is and always will be my Mom. Out of respect for her that is what I will call her always.

I usually say Mom and Dad, but sometimes when they say something ridiculous I will say Carol!, as if I am shocked at what she just said. It is kind of a funny thing that we do, because she always will pretend to hit my shoulder or something, as if I shouldn't call her by her first name.

I call my parents mommy and daddy as I have always have since I was small . I have never called them by their first name, I tease them by calling them oldies

Hi petiksmode, I just call them Dad and Mum. I belong to a conservative/traditional society and we don't address parents by their names. Maybe you can say it is a sign of respect. Given my own choice in this matter, I also would not want to call them by name. I would still call them Dad and Mum. Cheers!
