Branded goods - do they matter?

Do branded goods matter to you? Be it watches, shoes, clothes, electronics, phones. Does the brand matter to you when you buy things? Is there a certain brand that you always buy from? I think people buy branded goods cause they believe they have bought something of the same brand before and think they are getting the same quality, and they get a sense of familiarity - especially with electronics where the interfaces are similar. When you buy a brand, you expect the same quality, so shoes you buy that are more durable, flexible, etc. I personally don't care much for branded goods, unless I'm getting something that specifically needs a quality that a brand provides, like durability.

sometimes yes sometimes no. when it comes to clothes i dont mind if it is not branded. i go for if it looks good on me. if it is sale and if it fits right and most important is if it is confortable. so it doesnt matter if it is branded or not. when it comes to appliances i go for the atleast popular brand. i once bought a non-brand or not popular brand washing machine and i just regret the day i bought it. when it comes to shoes if i will use the shoes often then i go for branded for the branded are known to be really stand on the test of time. rain or shine. so it all depends on what is the goods and what are the purpose

I agree, clothes its all about size, comfort and price. But electrical things have to be branded otherwise 9 times out of 10 they will be rubbish. Alot of non branded food tastes the same as the branded food but there is the odd thing that just tastes like rubbish. Baked beans for example, how is it possible to make baked beans taste bad? Its not, so just buy the cheap ones.

The cheap ones might be cheaper for a reason - lower quality beans perhaps? More filler added into your can? You get what you pay for I suppose

yea im with u on this one.. i really don't care what clothes i wear, and i dun like the branded clothes, because they are just too darn expensive for their name really... some electronics and other appliances i am kind of picky on those... just like u LOL and the food... i just get whatever i want to eat, whatever's cheapest on the market.. they all taste the same to me (because my mouth is cheap? lol) and i prefer NOT to go to the luxury restaurant because cheap food is alot better to make your stomach full :p

not really.most times generic is the same, and occasionally even made by the same people.some i will buy brand name but not many.usually after i've found the no-name isn't as good. my mom on the other hand has to have the brand name every time or she will pitch a fit til she gets it.

good question 'likaes'.......Most of the time my friends told me that i'm too much 'brand-conscious' and spend too much of money. But my real intention was that branded things last much longer and have a guarantee, most importantly it gives a customer satisfaction

I agree, with some brands, there is assurance in some degree of quality. With lesser-known brand goods, you can't be sure if they are good or not. Though, there are brands to avoid as well, notorious for short-changing their customers through devious means, or bad business practices.

I have become a "brand" person. After buying three pairs of jeans at Wal Mart and having them tear apart in less than three months I stopped buying the cheaper brands and look for the quality of brand names. In my shopping excursions I have seen non brand items and compared them to brand name and found the quality ten thousand percent better than the non brand. Also, I am brand oriented when it comes to buying my shoes too. I figure that the work I have to do to get the money to buy my clothes and shoes I should have the best that I can afford. There are some things that I don't buy brand name. But it is stuff that I don't expect to last for long periods of time. I also am very careful about what non brand items I buy in food, both for me and for the animals I share my home with. My paper goods, cleaning products, etc. I usually find non name brands that do the job as well as not better than the name brands.

There are just certain things that you have to be brand conscious about, to ensure product quality. Sometimes, expensive things DOES mean quality. You get what you pay for, I suppose.

Uh well, i don't really am into brands stuff especially when it comes to cloths... i have seen 100% cotton t-shirts that just had a small brand (like the nike mark) and they were one color, nothing special at about 90 euros and i have seen ultra cool t-shirts 100% cotton as well at 9 euros... I only care the brand for my snickers but not even there it's not an ultra expensive brand, but just a good one (that i know for sure that has good quality stuff).

Branded shoes are usually way better than their generic counterparts. I like puma sneakers myself that a bought for a hundred+ which I've used for several years.

There was a time in my life when like most people I had money to spare and I would never ever condider buying anything without a brand. In some cases this served me well but now I am wiser. A brand does help with product recognition especially when making a repeat purchase and in some cases may be justified, but for many non differentiated products it is just a marketing trick. I now live a more alternative lifestyle and I like to think that I am much less influenced by brands. The electronics industry though is one of the few areas where you really do need branding in most cases, but don't be falsely led. For example I personally think that Sony is amongst the lowest products on a quality:price ratio there is. I spent many years in the industry selling these products and the amount of consumers that insisted on Sony was amazing even if they had a product that was previously poor or had an unacceptably short life span, I would not say they are a bad product just very ordinary and not really good value for money.

Yeah, I've had a Sony Ericsson phone before and it kept breaking. I had to send it to the repair centre about ten times in the few years I owned it. I liked the interface and the speakers though, but the parts were really bad quality other than that. I think this just goes to show that even branded goods have their own faults

No I am definitely not a brand person infact i have said to some of my friends that i believe the big brand companies see them coming, like the other day a friend of mine said I had the same sports shoes on as his, he said they are my sports shoes and knowing they buy good ones and i buy mine from target, I said i don't think so, i asked him how much he paid as he kept insisting they were the same, even making take one of mine off and checking the soles, he said he paid over $100 and i said well there you go I paid 415 at Target for mine...

I really am not into branded goods. As long as I like them and as long as I can afford them, I'll buy it. I'll give you an example: I do not buy branded pants. I usually go for the unbranded ones because I have a hard time finding a right size for me. I have a small waist and a larger bottom so it's difficult to find the right size among branded pants. When I checked the unbranded section, I found quite a lot of pants that fit perfectly. Now, if we talk about watches, electronics and phones, I'd have to say that I do check on the brands. I do not want to pay so much for an unbranded phone because if something happens to the phone, there's no way to fix it. It's like you're buying something that is disposable. Once it stops working, all you can do is just throw it away.

To me they do, I normally won't even consider a certain product if I have never heard of the brand beofre. I like to stick with known brands that I am familiar with since I am used to them and know what to expect of them.

How would you find out if the goods you're getting are good quality? They don't have the backing of a brand.. but then again, branded goods aren't necessarily good quality either - they're just known as being good.

i am not so picky with the brand names on clothes, my family members are very picky with the brand names, especially my dad, but not me... i really don't want to spend too much money on the products manufactured by like the well known brands... like i dun wanna go to the mall and buy like $30~$40 t-shirt from abercrombie... im not that stupid to spend my good $$$ on just bunch of branded goods -_-;; just go 2 walmart or costco or some other places like that and you'll still get other clothes that are just like the others... but some of the electronics, i am kind of picky... like i look too much at the durability, and design.. not too much :p

There are certain items that I consider the brand. I prefer branded jeans because I can use it for a long time. I have specific brands in terms of computers too. But brands doesn't apply to me for everything.

A good brand is supposed to provide a better product. Nowadays, however, when the makers give out licenses to so many others in places with lower standards that doesn't have to be true. The best bet is experience. Which means, of course, that you have to try things.

For me, I don't go for the brand, I look for quality. By brother always have me on this matter, he keeps on telling me that branded ones are of best quality. But I found them costly compared to what I bought which are cheaper and I think the quality is just the same. The only branded thing that I wear is my sneakers, I always prefer Adidas over everything else.
