just wonder why when cain slay his brother,he was given a mark so others will not lay their hand on him.

That is a great question and one that I don't know will be answered in this life.
In the beginning, people lived hundreds of years. (Genesis 5:4-5) Adam lived 930 years and had other sons and daughters. Maybe God put the mark on Cain for future encounters. In 930 a lot of reproducing could go on:)

thanks friend for your response, this is the very question i could not internalise deeply,for the very reason of these case was that the links of time and events are somehow in progressive form rather than in chronological order, which the latter explains how people of adam descent began to intermarry producing great numbers of people of their kind for such a long span of life they have in their time..anyway that is the nearest theory that we can draw to answer such controversy.

"progressive" i like that. and i agree, the bible doesn't usually tell us what happened just for the sake of chronology but the bible, i believe, is telling us what future encounters are we going to make.
there was no use of recording those events if they can't have meaning for us now. so i think it tells of future encounters.
