Are you a shy person to eat outside, standing?

Yesterday I went along with one of my friends to a fast food restaurant to have some snacks, in the evening. On getting our items in plates, we looked for place to sit inside the restaurant. Since there was good crowd, we couldn't find a place to sit and eat, with the result we had to go out to eat, standing. Since my friend was very uncomfortable, looking here and there and seemingly feeling shy, i asked her why. She revealed she was not used to eating out standing before and so was feeling uncomfortable and shy! Then, somehow i managed to keep her cool and eat the snacks! Has this ever happened to you? Are you such a shy person to eat outside of a restaurant, standing? How do you feel then?

You know, eating really close to others makes me self conscious so I can kind of relate to her but at the same time I do not know her exact reason for feeling uncomfortable. Maybe she just is concerned about the cleanliness as a pose to eating outside. I know at fast foods they do pay less attention to the outside eating areas then the inside. My friends have told me that I eat really 'proper' and think its funny as I blot my mouth with napkins after every bite and sit with my elbows off the table. The elbow part is form my moms constantly nagging when I was a child about manners. But it just bothers me when Im eating close to people with food items liek hamburgers or sloppier foods because there is no pleasant way to eat them unless you cut it up (that takes forever to eat that way, lol!). I think this is the reason many woman eat like birds when they go out on dates because they do not want to come off unladylike. Plus the birds you feel in your stomach. I get unconscious eating close to people especially when you have the bar tables at fast food restaurants (like philly steak shops) but I do not stop eating all together but just take really small bites, make sure to wipe my face often and be careful.

Well, if I see a restaurant/fast food packed with people I don't dine-in, I'd rather take it out or go to another place to eat. But for me if ever that would happen to me it won't really bother me to eat outside standing because i just don't care about what other will think.LOL. Not to be rude but if I mind them then I will have a difficult time eating my food.

I also feel uncomfortable when I eat something outside because I think I am bad looking when I eating something. Maybe eat some snacks is OK and it just a small thing but when there are many things to eat, I would rather to wait until the restaurant have the seats and table.

no for eating i am never shy.i can eat standing as my favourite food is junk foods which are available on stalls where in you are not provided any facility to sit and eat so one has to stand and eat..the best junk foods available are on stalls only..no one can give you that yummy taste...

It wouldn't bother me to stand up in a take away store to eat my food, I do it all the time. At the football, we hardly ever sit down and we usually buy food there to so I'm not shy or feel awkward doing so, actually it is probably better for me as the food has a vertical drop lol!

I eat where-ever I can eat. If it is standing up, sitting down, inside, or outside, then that is what I will do. Sometimes, you just have to adapt. In my house, I usually eat some of my food standing up because I have other things to do and I have no time to sit down. When I go to "In N' Out" in Glendora, California, it is always crowded at this "In N' Out", so everyone usually have to sit and eat outside. Sometimes, people just go through the drive-thru if they see that they inside and outside are crowded, or they eat elsewhere. Everyone in my area goes nuts over "In N' Out". They beat McDonald's anyday.

When I'm hungry, I'm not shy about eating, inside or out. The only thing that might concern me would be whether or not the paper plate on which such meals are usually served would hold up if not placed on a solid surface.

Hi! What we do is that we always find a seat first before ordering. While others order, one will stay on the seat then he/she who was sitting will get his/her turn when the others get back. As much as possible, we don't want to eat without having any seat secured. But when it happens that we have to stand, I don't feel shy at all. I'm sort of a "I don't care what you think, I'm doing my thing" kind of person. Even if we're standing, I'm having the time of my life munching on a snack. It would still be better if there was a seat though so we can be more comfortable. There was one time though that my mom and I bought some drinks from a store because we were so thirsty but there were no seats. So we had to drink while standing. My mom said that it was quite embarassing to enjoy a drink while standing. What I said was there was nothing to be shy about because it's a common thing at some point or the other. Maybe to make people who are shy with this thing, we can tell them that no people around anyone who eats standing up would actually say "Hey everyone! Look over there! Those people are eating...and they're standing up!" No one ever does that. I think it's subjective and it depends on a person. What I would be shy about is if I was eating or drinking but blocking other people's way. Have a nice day and happy myLotting!

Generally we do not eat outside, standing, but for me, I always do that when travel somewhere, there are so many people waiting for the table, it would be better to eat outside, standing, to save the time, but nobody around me feels shy.

I think that I am pretty self-concious when it comes to eating anywhere in public! I like places like KFC and McDonalds but rarely do I venture into a restaurant! The funny thing is, I want to experience what a restaurant is like but feel slightly intimidated on eating in one. This sounds crazy I know. I guess it's the sometimes busyness of the place! I guess I can be a little shy at times and this has contributed to this. I would imagine that, eating outside when there was no room in the restaurant, this would be quite uncomfortable for anyone let alone your friend. The proper thing to do is obviously sit whilst you are eating. If I had faced that situation myself, I would probably have chosen a quieter place to eat. Andrew

that's normal and no reason to get shy. In the US people are happy to eat even they are standing, they don't care other people says, so I would say I was with them. In here, I was fine having such scenario and no reason to get shy in the public eating standing. When I was in college, we have a lot of experience in the fast food eating in standing due to many people and no available sit but that is fine for me and my colleagues.

I wouldn't feel shy eating outside, I do not understand why your friend would feel this way. Where I live there are a lot of fast food restuarants that have outdoor eating areas. It is not that you and your friend were eating as you walked along the street. Since you were eating outside of the restaurant it should have been understandable why you were doing it. If she felt so shy, why didn't the both of you go to the car, and sit down and eat there? I definitely, would not feel shy or strange or anything else, if I was eating outside of a restaurant. When you go to a fair or feastival people are always eating outside. Hope your friend gets over her shyness.

I like to have good and tasty food always, so i have some familiar shops for me and with friends i used to go out. So the taste pulls me to the shop whether standing or sitting doesnt matters, as the tongue longs for the taste...(but food has to be hygenine) I want to share about my regular shop where i used to have breakfast, its keralite shop who makes idly and vada...its taste good and hygenine but we need to take it by standing and hanging plates in hand ..so everyday me and my friend rush to him and have that tasty idly/vada with sambhar topping.. Taste takes the pain of standing and hanging with plates...

nu-uh not me...hahaha! I love eating while standing. As a common Filipino custome, we usually say, "para derecho sa kalingkingan" meaning we love eating while standing so the food should go directly to our toes. Very silly to thing as if our body just stocks the food like a piggy bank from the bottom to the brim... but nice one to ponder since its a tradition. :)
