As a medical practitioner, I consider the Emergency Room and the Intensive care unit as the most amazing parts of the hospital. Yet, If I would choose a favorite, I would choose neither of the first two that were mentioned. I would still go for the operating room, for it is where the real action takes place...^^ How about you?

Hi Janna, I like going to the operating room too. It is where I get to touch instruments, body organs and assist the doctors in the operation. I graduated from a public hospital so doctors would allow us to see and touch body internal organs and we get to learn a lot too. I had my chance to assist in brain surgery thrice and It didnt matter standing for 8-10 hours as long as I have learned much about the human brain and I was able to help in saving a life. A nurse's job is very challenging. You have to be assertive, alert and knowledgeable with what you are doing and for us, time is gold, every minute and second counts because so many lives are depending on our service and our help

Very well said. Doctors will have a hard time when nurses are not around..^^ Brain surgeries are indeed one of a kind, heart surgeries are wonderful as well. I guess your background is really nice in the operating room, do you wish to be an OR nurse someday?

yes i'd love too..the operating room is a very challenging place.. but a government hospital in the Bahamas has offered me to work for them in the Psyche Ward. I had a great experience there too when I was still an intern. I came to handle disturbed patients though it takes a lot of patience and good coping skills for that

i have to agree that it's the OR. i worked for 17 years as the med-surg purchasing director. i ordered everything from bandaids to body parts. nothing captured and held my interest like orthopedic surgery. i think surgery is exciting and there is a wonderful sense of accomplishment when you are finished. what you have given the patient is remarkable.

I would choose labor and delivery. I love babies. I started nursing school many years ago and I wanted to be a nurse-midwife. I think it is truly amazing to see a baby being born.

I'm not a medical practioner but I work at a hospital. I am a registration clerk in the Emergency room. Every patient that comes to the hospital comes to me first whether it be lab work or an emergency. So I see a lot of action. More than I care to sometimes. Before the patients go to the triage nurse they come to me first and you know when they walk through that door they have their story all ready to tell someone, and that someone happens to be me. Most of the times before I get a chance to tell them I will get the nurse, I've already heard more than enough of their symptoms or have seen their head wounds or cut up body parts... ewww... Plus when the ambulances come in I have to go get information from those patients. So I see quite a bit and hear quite a bit...more than I want to really. I'm sure your field is exciting but then you probably have a stronger stomach for it than I do..
