Police in Somerset County are trying to figure out how a radio tower went missing in Windber. Police say a group of people had a very thorough plan to get all 120 feet of steel and copper down from the old Windber radio tower. The thieves stole a tower and a transformer full of copper. How many people do you think this took? Seems like an organized plan to me. I guess people must be pretty desperate. Do you think it will take long for them to get caught?

WoW, what in the world will the think of stealing next? This is a mighty big tower for anyone for someone to steal, it had to take a lot of people and machinery to do this. And yes you are right this was an organized plan indeed.I wonder how much money they will get from the copper and steel that they get from this tower.I too am wondering how soon these people will be caught.I was drawn in by this discussion, because I was born and raised not far from Windber, in Elton, Pa. Do you live near here also?

Wow! Now that is industrious. It shouldn't take too long for them to get caught as they have to sell the scrap somewhere. I should think that would be traceable.

Oh my what will people try to steal next? Must have took alot of people but they wouldn't make so much by the time the split it all up between them. I guess a little is better then none in their minds. People that they sell it to has to be suspicious wouldn't they? It it gettin so bad that nothing seems safe from thieves anymore.

It is amazing what people will steal. My brother had the copper pipes stolen out of his new house and the aluminum downspouts on the outside of the house one day last week. It cost him $400 to replace the copper pipes that the thieves probably got $20 for.
