Do You Have a Close Relationship With Nuts? Or are Nuts Your Mortal Enemy?!

Nuts! What are they? Why do we have them? I guess your kind of thinking I have a problem with them! Well, that's an understatement! For me, nuts are extremely dangerous! I have a serious allergy towards them. As a kid I used to suffer horrendously because my parents just did not know what was going on! I used to eat all different kinds of food, and for some reason, I always used to end up at the local hospital spluttering, choking, coughing and being sick!! My eyes used to swell as well, and my breathing became very difficult. It was only when it was suggested that I take an allergy test, that I found out that nuts were a no go area for me. I could not eat nuts, and I could not eat anything containing nuts in the ingredients. Do you love nuts? What is it about nuts that you love? Do you have an allergic reaction to nuts yourself? When people offer me food, there's a potential risk! It is so embarrassing, but I have to do it. I have to ask "Does this contain nuts?" or "I'm sorry, I cannot have this as I have a nut allergy!" I wouldn't say that I'm imprisoned by this though, there are still a lot of foods that I enjoy. Get rid of the nuts, who needs them!! Sorry, I know that there are a lot of nut lovers out there!! Anyway, I would like to know your views on this. Some people have even died as a result of this terrible allergy. Thanks in advance. Andrew

Nuts and me go way back..... I eat nuts; have been CALLED nuts; I have even been KICKED in them! lol. Allergies to nuts are actually one of the more common allergies around and I have had friends swell up like you wouldn't believe when accidentally eating them! Fortunately I have no issues with them and do love to eat most of them, especially in chocolate! I am not a big fan of salted peanuts though. Thank goodness you wnet and had the allergy test too. I know of people that have gone decades of their lives never quite feeling right and then had an allergy test and realised that they had been eating things they were allergic to!

OK. Let me take you on a nutty journey through myself and my descriptions seeing as you can't take this journey yourself! lol. Some nuts like cashews, hazelnuts and pecans are actually quite sweet in flavour. Others can be far more savoury like walnuts, brazil nuts and the trusty peanut. My favourites would have to be the cashew and the pistachio. Pistachio's are sort of halfway between sweet and savoury in my opinion. Catch you again soon!

Thankfully I'm not allergic to nuts or anything. I love cashews the most but pretty much like them all. I love crunchy peanut butter and adding nuts to cookies and such. I feel bad for those that can't have them...I'm diabetic so I can't have any sweets and I have to be very careful of what I eat, so I know how it feels to see others having something and you can't have it. It's great that you don't feel deprived or anything by your allergy...you've managed to find other things that you can enjoy. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I've also learned to read labels and there are certain times when I just have to say no and go without. The other day I was at my Moms and they had filled doughnuts...I love doughnuts...with icing and she asked me if I wanted one and boy, did I but I knew that one doughnut and I'd be in bed most of the day with an upset stomach and raging headache so I had to say no and she moved them out of sight so I didn't have to look at them. That's a good thing that you are not allergic to nuts, especially as they are good for you! I'm sorry to hear that you're diabetic though, my mother had this condition and it was quite difficult. Still, I check every item of food I eat now, the ingredients and so forth. Andrew

I would hate to have a nut allergy my friend! Because I eat a lot of nuts for the protein value as I work out in the gym, I use nuts as protein and fuel to give me the energy I need to run and pump iron. Plus the iron, vitamins and minerals that nuts contain. I love brazil nuts I will actually break them up and put them in a yoghurt, nice protein boost! I am very fortunate that the only allergy I have are dust allergy and wasps, I have to carry an epipen around with me all the time if I get stung, one sting from a wasp could kill me! Crazy isn't it, but at least that's only in the Summer months, you have to worry all year round. So much contains nuts nowadays and I think the labelling system has improved a great deal to make sure that if anything comes into contact with a nut product or is contaminated then it is clearly marked on the packaging which must be a godsend for your good self!

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I would just love to have nuts and not be allergic to them. I didn't know about the high protein content! I'm into fitness training myself and I guess I'm missing out by not having them as regards the protein. Still, I guess I have a lot of eggs instead which I believe hava a lot of protein in them. I'm definitely looking over every product I buy at times and it gets very embarrassing occasionally! Still, there you go, nuts! My mortal enemy!! Andrew

Hi Andrew!I wish I could continue my intimate relationship with Nuts...LOL. But for now I need to treat them as my mortal enemy #1. The lady who does my nails was just here to do all our nails. We talked about the pain I have with my joints. She asked me how old I am. I told her Im 42. She said she's 48 and she says she doesnt have any illness yet as far as she knows. I told her I had juvenile arthritis ever since. I cannot eat nuts. My favorite is peanuts, cashew nuts, macadamia, pecans, almonds, walnuts, popped beans...what else didnt I mention? The best thing is,I still eat.LOL...then take pain relievers.Huhuhu. My husband keeps containers with nutsin his car. Everytime I sit there, guess what I do.Huhuhu. I just cooked white beans with pork and tomato sauce. My favorite. Now I cannot walk. I love mung beans. ! tablespoon is equivalent to not walking for several days.Huhuhu. I think my case is better than yours though. You cant take any at all. Me ,I can eat but suffer later.always be careful in eating food that you dont know what the ingredients are.If ever you come to the Philippines=avoid Kare-Kare and Lumpia sauce no matter what. They have grounded peanuts.

I'm still very cautious now about checking all kinds of foods that I eat. Even the tiniest nut can do me a lot of harm! Anyway, it sounds like you are having quite a nutty adventure! I would find it quite traumatic living in your household with all those nuts lying around! Anyway, I now how to manage my condition now. Should I ever venture into your part of the world I will certainly keep an eye out for those two products Kare-Kare and Lumpia sauce! Andrew
