It assumes if you believe the Bible or you believe in evolution. I believe the Bible, that there were just two people created man and woman, not an apelike race over there, a humanoid very advanced race someplace else, not space aliens come from above. It demeans us to say that we came from apes as some suggests - because then we have an excuse if we eat like slobs. And if we come from space aliens, then it would be a shame because we cannot go on space ships to other planets. But the answer is that Cain probably took one of his sisters, and asked his parents so he could have her as his wife, that is before they discovered he had murdered his brother. And at that time, the only way that children could be born was for brother to marry sister, at least for the first generation before the gap widened. You have to understand that there were no defects in Adam and Eve or their children. That did not come until generations later, and mostly after the Flood when there was not a large a gene pool as before. Then the rule against incest began and now it is extremely risky to marry even a first cousin.
