Okay, I may be considered cheap, but I love the Dollar Tree. Every year for Christmas my daughter gets loaded up with toys from us, my parents, and her grandmas. In fact, we usually put some away some of the toys and bring them out later on (once she starts to get board with what she has). Since that covers the big toys, I usually spend about $5 to $10 a month of little toys at the dollar store. She is 4 1/2, so it isn't really hard to keep her occuiped now, like it will be when she gets older. She loves the puzzles, flash cards, and other stuff they have there. She just started pre-k, but we had been working on school stuff at home for the past few years. When back-to-school would start, I would load up on crayons, markers, pens, and notebooks for the entire year. It was a pain to store it all, but you can usually save $1 or more off these items by buying them during back-to-school sales. So, I usually spend about $25 a year. It will likely be more once my daughter starts kindergarten (as opposed to prek where the supplies were provided). The one thing I wont skimp on is clothes. I like her to have nice clohtes, but I also wait until things are on sale. I love the pretty dresses they have for girls. I try to spend about $10 - $20 a dress. But, I also buy that on a semi- yearly basis, as I don't buy new clothes for her every month. As for chocolates and biscuits, we really don't get a lot of it. Sometimes, if my daughter is good on a shopping tip, I will buy her a small package of M&Ms, but that is less than $5 a month, if that.
