Watching the news about Ike and they have a family who is sheltering at family and had/has 18 people in the house - 8 dogs and a cat named Chicken. I was thinking - WHY is that familure? Then I remembered. One of my favorite groups, Trout Fishing in America, has a song about a cat named Chicken Joe. I'm wondering if the people who are sheltering here in town are also Trout Fishing fans.

I know those storms can be. Those of us in Austin had been hoping it would track more westerly and we'd get some of that badly needed rain - but NOOOOOO

You ought to read/listen to the lyrics, after that first verse, they go on to a little dog named Miss Kitty and a parakeet named King Kong.

Well, they did catch the cat on the camera and he didn't look too terrified. Of course, it just may be that he'd reached his terror limit and had gone "legless" as I call it.

Sorry to hear about your friend's roof - I've heard from (or about) most of my friends in the Houston area and they are all alright. So, that's good - and the hotel where they hold an annual convention is also fine....

Yeah, I would've liked to know the reason they named their cat "Chicken" but I'll probably never know. I hope none of that family sustained serious damage in the storm. The worst any of my friends in Houston got was a branch thru a side window of their SUV and loss of power - but one had a neighbor with a tree down on the front of their house. Haven't heard from everyone yet - still waiting to see.

Interesting... I once knew a cat named Squirrel... she was kinda squirrelly and loved to watch them out the window.

I've talked to a gal who has a cat named Monkey, because he wanted to be brought inside and adopted so badly, he climbed a tree to the second story and clung to the window of their bedroom!

Mandy, my first semi-feral was actually an inside/outside cat and when we FAILED to open that door open soon enough in his opinion, he'd get on the gas meter and jump to the windows and cling to the screens. He ended up being one of my bed kitties, he was never cuddly - but he'd sleep on the end of my bed.

Possibly, but you know how they have the expression 'fraidy cat' or 'scaredy cat' I bet it is something more like that how the cat got it's name. Cat's are very wary usually and dont like to hang around when they think something might be dangerous to them. They are such cool little critters.

Yeah - I have a scaredy cat (or 3) but I just found it was interesting the way they always talked about him.
