Do you believe so? Although this is some kind of an old adage, I still kinda believe it myself. Sometimes in life we suffer pain or heartache maybe because at certain point, we became unfair to others or, either, we were just too kind an got abused from such kindness. I don't fully agree to this old adage in the sense that I still believe in the Almighty Creator who allow things to happen in our lives regardless of the efforts we exert to evade the unprecedented. How do you view this matter? Thanks for sharing!

I fully agree with your old adage. I think it is not an old adage and it is valid for today also. Things happen according to the things we have done in past and future. We are sourounded by a society and when interacting many things happen. There are results of it and those results would cause pain and joy.

I believe in it too. The things we've done in the past, what we've been up to the present and what will come to the future will determine what we will become. What is important is that we are able to learn from our experiences be it good or bad. We make choices and we take risks, however we must consider every consequences of every choice we will make so that we will have no regrets later. Always hope and pray fo the best and believe in your dreams coz no one will except you. :)

I believe that saying or concept. We are the ones who make our lives. We are given free will by our Almighty to do what we want to do. With that, we are the ones responsible for all our decisions and actions. Let's all live life without any expectation. It's better to just appreciate all the things that come our way.

I believe this 100%! No question..... Regardless of whether we face hardship or joy in life it is US that ultimately determines how we react and deal with all circumstances. We have been granted free will and our thoughts and actions not only shape ourseleves but they influence those around us as well. If you live your life full of negativity and sadness then this is what your life will comprise of. Make every effort to be positive or optimistic and happy and you will atttract the same. The Law of Attraction will always ensure that whatever we put out we get back!

Absolutely right! Living our lives is like building memory banks--it all depend on us whether we fill them with sad memories or happy memries! Thanks for you time!

i agree with that to a certain extent because there are unseen factors like accidents, health issues but we can choose to be bitter or deal with them and choose to be happy in spite of what the circumstances are.

There's a lot we can do to better our lives but there is also a lot we can't help. Its hard to say you can determine your own life when there's so much you can do nothing about. I think its almost a kind of balance between what we do and what happens to us. Sometimes, of course, we just can't help anything.

I have heard this all my life about God "Allowing" things to happen to us and I never have believed it and still don't. We are the ones that allow things to happen to us. We make stupid moves that brings a lot of pain down on us then we try to blame God for it. God is ready and more than willing to personally teach us how to stop all this crap in our lives. If we are not happy with our life we have a God given ability to seek other information that will take our lives where we want them. God will even help us do this by making it known to us what we need to do and where to find the information we need. Our life is exactly what we have made it most often because we are trying to run it ourselves. We are not qualified to do so, and never will be.

Nobody's perfect and it's up to us to make efforts to make amends with our lives to make redemption and move on with it, with God's loving grace. Thanks for responding!

I'm atheist and also completely a-spiritual. I don't believe in any sort of meaning on a grand scale for humanity. However, I do believe that we have a consciousness that has risen from the complexity of our brains (along the lines of say, emergent gameplay in games with large rule sets) and as a result we are aware of our existence. Therefore we can create a meaning for our lives even if in the big picture it's got no meaning. I believe that adage is completely accurate.

I certainly agree! We tend to look for someone or something to blame when something in our life went wrong. But come to think of it, and how did it started, you would be surprise to find out that the root of it all is you... and no one else. We tend to have mishaps, shortcomings because of the decisions we make or our actions. Though it is "HE" who got everything mapped out for us, there are times when we choose a different path from where he intend us to venture. No matter which way we go there is always a lesson learned at the end.
