Words of advice newbies if I could........

There are always many new people joining mylot and I just wanted to say the I feel it is important for them to gain some understanding about how best to maximize their activity and earnings here. - If you post a topic, make the effort to reply to responses! Not just a "Thank you" but make the effort to try to engage the person who responed further. This will boost the placement of your topic in the rankings and will give you more exposure because there will be ACTIVITY within your discussion. - Don't think that joining and then bombarding other members with referral links is acceptable! You will see which members are into other money making sites and which ones aren't by their discussions and activity; focus on these members if you have to and leave the rest of us alone in this regard! - A single line response will NOT really earn you anything and maybe will earn you nothing at all! The more effort you make the more you will get back. Try to respond with at least two to three lines if you can. Maybe some other members can add to this? I think it is great that we are getting more and more new mebers here and if we can help them with our own tips and advice it will and up far better for all of us!

Hi James Well said, even its bit useful for me since i am not making well response to response in all times. Still i am trying to do for all, but i am get failed. let me do it. And well i could say somemore for starters Add more friends and try to response 50% of your responses to your friends. Start discussions and share the thoughts what your minds says... Use the words as simple and easy as it will be easy for others to understand. Happy mylotting my friends !!!

Hi rkrish! It is great that you have added some more tips and I hope many others do the same. Yes there are guidelines you can read when you first join but nothing beats real experiences and advice being shared! Thanks for responding.

I do agree that you will find most friends you add not interacting at all. But adding friends DOES and up giving you more exposure when you add a new discussion; especially if they have notifications on as many do! I don;t have a high number of friends considering how long I have been here and there is really only a handful that I interact with constantly as well. I will though keep accepting requests if they come! I used to audit my list every now and then and remove people I never saw but I don't do this anymore.

Add more friend rkrish? Alot of the persons that you accept does not contribute to your discussions. I have to deleted my list on Monday. Over 200 and not one of them in my discussions. I would advised the newbies just to have fun post discussions but mostly respond because this is how you make friends.

Welcome to mylot red_amethyst! I have been a member for over two years now and at this time there were less than 20,000 other members! It has taken some time but mylot is going from strength to strength in terms of users and the more new people know from other users the better it will be in the long run. Thanks for responding and I hope you enjoy your time here!

Your advice is short and to the point. I noticed that when you make a comment to another user's reply, your post goes back on top of the list. This can help you to receive greater responses as you have just said. I still have not found an answer to my question whether we receive money according to the number of responses we get.

This is very true ronaldinu. The more activity within a discussion the more important the discussion is seen as by the system. This is why I personally make every effort to reply to responses etc! And in terms of your unanswered question; there is NO set amount per response or anything like this that we get but of course the more responses and the more activity you generate within a discussion the higher your earnings will have a chance of being. Thanks for responding.

I do think the more popular a discussion the more it earns, but Im not so sure if it is the same few people y'know? It may accumulate more the more individual responses you have... But I honestly havent been here for over a year, I am only just coming back again.

Very good and then there is the other famous words of advice - work at it everyday ! These are good words here but the essential thing is persistence and effort. Without that you're wasting time and your enjoyment will be minimal. Try harder always !

Yes, it does take committment and time. It is important to not get too carried away though! I came very close to mylot burn-out a week or so ago from getting too caught up in this site so I backed off a little and now all is fine. Thanks for responding Bluepatch.

This is a good discussion. If earning is not really a big thing for the member, creating good relationships with other members help make myLot a better place.

Thanks super_jj! I have never been here for the earnings and have many more motivating factors than this that will keep me here for a long time to come! I enjoy the interaction more than anything else and it is a great way to discuss a variety of things with people from all over the world. The money earned is a byproduct of all of this as far as I am concerned. Thanks for responding and I appreciate your inputs.

Thank you James72 from this newbie. Your advice is good and I'll use it. I've come to realize in the past few days that the discussions and people here are far more interesting than the making money part (the reason I joined to begin with). The whole community has been extremely helpful and kind. My best to you and I hope you have a wonderful day.

James, How i wish you had posted this discussion a few months back. Atleast i would not have had to learn the hard way. It's never too late though. I'm still a newbie afterall. On a serious note, your points are great and i sincerely wish that a lot of the newbies here take the time to go through and understand it, may be even pose some questions. That would make it really interactive.

Ain't hindsight a wonderful thing! I too pretty much felt my own way through the ins and outs of mylot as there were far fewer members back then than there are today! And you arer still a newbie??? lol. You are just as much a mylot old fart as I am alokn! We are yet to become "ancients" like many others with 5000+ next to their names but we're getting there! Thanks for responding and yes, I hope that some questions do come as well.

Thanks alot for the tips and advice.Though we all read the rules of my lot nothing like learning from experience. So kind of you to share your thoughts with us.I know it will surely be of great help to many of us out here. One thing which I truly appreciate about this community is that people here are very helpful. Many times when someone has a doubt about something they ask and there are numerous responses.I make sure I read all of them to gain more insight into the problems faced here.Everyday has been a learning process here.Only now I know I can edit the friends who never show up.I just accept everyone who wants to be a friend but I don't find them active at all.I make sure i respond to my friends first.Going through the responses for your discussion I have gathered alot of hints.Happy mylotting.God Bless.

I agree that many people here are very friendly and willing to help others and the contributions to this discussion only reinforce this fact! Your own comments are greatly appreciated as well. I too always start with friends discussions before looking anywhere else and am happy to have many of them do the same in return. Thanks for responding biggerb and I am glad that you too found this thread of benefit, even after all this time as a longer term user!

Quality is definitely key. Very, very good point! The more effort you put in to each post and response you do, the better the chance of earning more steadily and attracting goodf quality interaction in return. Thank you again Grandpa Bob and I appreciate your comments here.

I think it is a good idea to add a lot of people with the same interests as you because you your friends will see your posts easier and you will see theirs which means more responces to recieve and more to give as well =) I always look at my friends posts before I look at anyone elses. It is polite and helpful.

Two very good points SuckerUpper. Finidng people with the same interests gives us a better chance of having a lot more back and forth activity and making the effort with friends discussions usually means they will make the effort in return! Thanks for responding and sharing these tips.

Hallo James, Am not a newbie but have learned one or two things from this thread and i will have to thank you for sharing that knowledge with us old and new. I am also here to keep this discussion bumped so that the newbies who joined today may come across it. Another tip, Dont start discussions with one sentence like : "coke or pepsi?" this particular one has been repeated here like a million times........start a discussion that leaves room for people to contribute. Will add more tips as I think of them.

You are most welcome kwenge! And thank you for bumping this discussion as well. Your comment regarding topic titles is definitely a very valid one. The discussion title is the first thing that catches someone's eye so the more effort you put into making it appealing, the better chance you have of attracting attention and responses. It is also important to try to be as original as possible! I know it can be difficult when you consider how many people are now members and continue to join but we all have life experiences and ideas we can share so people should not be afraid to experiment rather than always focus on more of the same. Thanks for responding and any more tips you come up with are most welcome!

Thanks Professor James! I'm still a newbie after all. Been here a month or so. Even though I read the guidelines and such, I find myself learning more about myLot and how it works and what one should do and not do from other discussions posted by other myLotters relating to myLot.com.

Saint..... Anne..... she's not a man..... If she can't do it no-one can. Sorry but I am in a strange mood this evening! I too have learned far more from using the site over time than I ever picked up from the guidelines! We should all be well acquainted with the rules but practice is always just as relevant as theory! Thanks for responding and for tolerating my ridiculous rhyme at the start! (Assuming you tolerate it of course! lol)

Because you go on 30 minutes drives with your boyfriend and I you can see from your style and context of writing as well. Oh and the picture of you at the seaside helps make this assumption easier too! As for the more man-like TV traits? We shall put that down to you being blessed!

Hi James72:) Thank you for the great tips! I wish I had come across an article like this when I first joined. I've been a member for a while now but I have not been really active. Having come back to mylot recently I am amazed by not only the astounding membership increase but also by the huge jump in discussion quality. Mylot is growning up eh? Now if I only had the smarts to contribute a worthwhile discussion...

Yes the membership numbers have been steadily growing for some time now which is great to see! My concern has always been quality rather than quantity though which is why I wished to make some brief points like this. I am sure that considering you have a high rating next to your name you are certainly doing something right so go for it! lol. Thanks for responding and I will see you around no doubt!

I am happy that you took the time to read through this discussion and it is great that you have added some points as well! I agree with you that anybody that comes here expecting to make big bucks is going to be very disappointed. Over time the earnings WILL accumulate but nothing in life comes easy! People that do hang in there will quickly start to realize that there are many more benefits of being a part of this community than just money. The earning becomes just a welcome bonus for many of us after a while! Thanks for responding andak.

Hi james72..:-0 awww your really a cool person for me..Hehehe Well yeah this is a good tip but another thing is,enjoy posting and making with a quality discussions not quantity and be friendly so that you will get the attention of the members.Upload some original pictures and try to response at least 3 to 4 lines in every posting for sure your earnings will be ok..If you have enough time, try to post about 50 a day and some 3 to 5 new discussions but if you really want to earn big then make as many as you want as long the post is in good quality. Thats all I can tip,,Hehehe...GOd bless and have a nice day.:-0

Reaching certain milestones such as 500 posts will allow you to add pictures to responses too and this can add more earnings to your totals. Thanks for responding and I appreciate your tips.

Hi James: great advice here for those of us that are newbies on here; lots of great tips and advice on here; I think the part where you said if you post a topic, make the effort to reply to responses, and I wholeheartedly agree; its kinda like emails too, you know you email someone and they never respond...( makes me crazy) LOL! but yet I get so many, I could spend all day and never get another thing done; so in the email department I stink at answering back to all of them, I just can't.. but here, and on other chat sites or forums etc...it is best to try to respond and heck why not? at least here we earn something for it...THAT'S GREAT!!
