My niece got engaged last week and the aunties are giving her a shower. We decided since she was getting married in Mexico over Christmas vacation we would throw a Mexican themed shower. The plan for the food and decorations is simple...and an idea to give her pecos to spend at the resort where they will be staying is a cool idea I think....but does anyone know of any traditions that they practice in the wedding ceremony? Or any other good ideas to add to the shower?

Hi Jill, I don't know of any myself but I will ask a friend who lives in Mexico and get back to you. My daughter and her boyfriend are off to Mexico for New Year as the last two years they have gone to New York for a few days after Christmas so felt like doing something different, what a coincidence it would be if my daughter was staying at the same resort as your neice, I will have to ask her. I bet your neice is really excited I know I would be, I got married in the same town as I was born LOL, not too much excitement there really but the day itself was. Ellie :D

Hi Jill this is the response I got back, hope it helps in some way, obviously some of it refers to my daughters visit so please disregard. Ellie :D Hola Ellie, Great to here your daughter and boyfriend are going to a new area! Let me know if I can help with any info. As far as Mexican weddings are concerned, I am no experet. A few things I know each town as an area cental with stores that sell nothing but wedding dresses. Here they have a small civil wedding first, some time later a month or so they have a "Boda" The Boda is usually held in the chathlic church and is a huge event with tons of people.I heard of a website a girl wwho lives here and specailizes in wedding of a sort. I will look for the site and look into other stuff. If she is going through a tour or service organization I am sure the have It worked out. one other thing Id almolst bet it includes Mariachi music...well at least the whole process is supposed to start with the male seranading the lady at her house late night with some type of mariachi singing or band. I have heard also of the man giving a red bag containg one bag of rice another of salt and another of beans...as some type of good will present before these are traditional corting gestures...like I said I am know expert but will check more and post of email you. I may be loosing interrnet for a few weeks. Sincerely Amikin:) One thing about traditionals here there are many different indiginous cultures with different traditions. I am thinking they are doing a more spanish influenced style wedding. Depending on how they are going about it, I see 2 main ppossible variations. One, tourism type wedding more staged mexican old stlye more touristy. From the weddings I have experienced, There is the church service and a huge party after words usually at a Rented night party hall. Live music with a typical mix of old and new. Drinking eating and gifts etc. Reception is the correct word I think. Then Honeymoon. They are pretty much like wedding ive been to in the states on with the location people food gifts music being mexican, for the most part...everyone likes imported and quality goods and music. OOPs I am rambling...hope you can get the idea of what im saying. I know in these sistuations money is no object. If they are paying for a service they will probubly pay the gringo tax price. But in comparison to the UK will still probuly seem good. Are they marrying a Mexican or are they from mexico? In this respect things may be different. Please let me know if I can help in anyway! So if you need to know anything else please don't hesitate, I did spot that you recived an excellent link in an above response so probably have all the info you need. Ellie :D

Being in south Texas when I hear mexican party, fiesta or anything like that I think of a pinata. They are usually filled with candy but not sure if you could fill it with other things for a wedding shower.

The one I know is that the people that come to the wedding help pay for it. Now that is cool. So if you don't want to help pay for wedding stay home. LOL. My friend is Mexican and she said we had to help pay for her wedding that is what they do in her country I told her well, that is fine. I won't be there lol. But I was. We got all the food for wedding. Thank goodness it was at her house. Your friend Onlydia
