Clever Ploy This lady has changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag, which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet... etc...was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called her hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I received your text asking about our Pin number and I replied a little while ago.' When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from their bank account. Moral of the lesson: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad , Mom, etc..... And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling back!! Also, when you're being text by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you. Along with that if you have an entry called 'Home' with your actual home phone number it's not too hard to do a reverse lookup on the number to find the address. now the robber has your home number, keys, AND address. PLEASE PASS THIS ON!

Still scarry though... One more story of rubering into my life, is when i finish walking from book store at the mall i enter the mini bus to go home, i sit in the corner. with my heavy jaket that have secret pocket inside. I was the only girl there that not fancy. Maybe look more poor than the others, i remember not a drop of powder before i go to the mall even check my face in the mirror. Iwas so tomboy. Everyone there have "bling-bling" and cell phone outside. dresses so nice but un save. Then 3 young man come inside and rob all the girls accept ask to me. cause i look have nothing and maybe poor and naive so they spare me? one of the girl yelling and have one cheek bleeding by his knife. I was unbelievably protected thanks God. They jump into a bride behind the mall. And the driver took us to the police station. I called my dad that i was in the police station, an he wasn't worry at all. He said , if you finish, just take the becak and go home. I want my dad to pay attention to me that time i remember... i just can't steal him from what ever he was doing, stil. But i know he love me hats the mather right? From all clips, my mind tell me to be careful. And now im alone at Bali. got friend but far,.. i live in the roof of a hotel at kuta beach with a cute dog,.. I got to protect my self. From bad man and robber too. I even prevent sexy dresses too. I just wan to be safe.. of I scare away people?

I carry my ATM card but I also have all the items, that I carry in my wallet, photocopied, front and back, in case they are lost and stolen. I have a copy in my safe, my sister has a copy, a copy on my computer and one in my saved email, so I can retrieve it from anywhere in the world. When I travel, I keep a copy me, and my husband carries a copy.

Nanajanet ~ OMG, my heart and stomach are now aching thinking about the possibilities. Did this happen to you? I was always told to put your husband or wife in your cell phone in case you were in an accident whoever found you or was assisting would only need to scroll through your phone to call your spouse to inform them you were hurt. I think I'm going to talk to my husband about this and just agree that we will NEVER text a pin or other sensitive info. As far as my home number I just have it listed as Ted (my hubby's name). I'm going to have to definitely pass this info on. Thank you for the public service announcement!

I'm glad it didn't happen to you although sad it even happens to anyone. Hope you don't mind, but I copied your post and sent it to my family in an email. My mom had her purse stolen at a gas station 2 years ago. Thank you again for letting us know about yet another scam/con going on. I hate that people would rather spend time thinking up ways to con innocent people out of money when they could just go out and get a JOB! Thanks Nana

Wow! This was certainly very clever and extremely simple when you think about it. Criminals are becoming far more savvy these days and have access to so many forms of information that we would just never consider as being so revealing. It is great that you have shared this information and I hope that everyone who reads it takes heed.

The funny thing is that they think of it first!! It's amazing how smart these crooks are. Imagine if they used their skills for doing good, huh?

what an informational info you got there... i think it is very dangerous to tell all your info in text or in email... it is not new coz too many scam mails and text are flooding the net and fone for many years now so all are prone to that...
