Hispanic History Month

United States
September 20, 2008 10:21pm CST
runs from September 15 through October 15. I don't know of any other month that goes from the middle of one month to the middle of another. I am not hispanic, but I live in Miami, and we're almost 80% hispanic here. Does the rest of the country even know about this observance? Is anything done to honor American hispanics outside of South Florida? I read recently that the entire country is going to have hispanic majority within the next decade. Does that change anything? Viva, hispanic myLotters!

I wasn't sure if Hispanic History Month was an actual celebration or not. I watch the disney channel (and am not afraid to admit it) and have seen a few video's of the theme songs of the shows. It says Hispanic Culture History Month but I wasn't sure if it was something that Disney did, or if it was an actual holiday. I suppose it's great to know. I have nothing against them.

Sometimes I think I'm the only person in South Florida who can't speak Spanish, so we really hear a lot about it here. The governor's asked us English teachers to have our kids write about it all month. There are all sorts of programs on TV and specials in restaurants and stores, etc.

I haven't seen any specials in the stores around here, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any. Then again I suppose it would depend on what you mean by stores, or even what you mean by specials. My fiance and I live in the country, we don't have a very high population of hispanics here, and don't have any special store for them at all.

I am not Hispanic origin too, but I notice the increasing population of Hispanic races in the USA. I might not understand much of Hispanic cultures, and about their history, but I knew that with the pace and percentage rate of increasing population, they will change the vote and the politics within this country.
