Forget money, forget fame, forget glory. What are your SIMPLE pleasures in life?

We all get so caught up in our lives and focus heavily on survival in our careers, earning money for material possessions, paying bills and everything like this. But what about the simple pleasures in life? The things that cost very little or nothing at all? Do you stop and smell the roses so to speak? Are you grateful for the little things or are you too caught up in getting by to really stop and enjoy life? What are your simple pleasures? Mine are things like a nice bottle of wine, walking along a beach and spending time with my wife alone having an iced coffee and cake then seeing a movie or something! SIMPLE things. Not expensive and totally enjoyable! What are the simple things that you enjoy? Or are you one of the unfortunates that have actually forgotten to stop and notice what these things actually are anymore?

Simple pleasures and free is spending time with my little sister and teaching her that life isn't all bad..going swimming..or just playing a few board games..taking walks till we feel like our legs are gonna fall off or ride our bikes.. it is fun and it is free and I am happy we have that freedom to do so.. so freedom is a simple pleasure for me. I also love reading books. I guess now a days people call our simple pleasures almost frugal..

The thoughts of being a Mom must be sad for you at times, but having the inner child brought out of you is a great thing! I hope it balances things out for you.

That's an interesting comment there at the end actually. Frugal? Yet in essence, these joys are absolutely priceless! It does sound like you have a wonderful time with your little Sister and we should all be so fortunate. Helps to keep youthful too I reckon! Thanks for sharing, Becca.

Yes,its true that we forgot simple pleasures of life which is not costly while maintaining everyday busiest schedule of work.We need to work for survival,to have a good life. So,everyone become so busy that have no time to think about simple pleasures like to spend time with family,to go out for a movie etc, which will add a sweet taste of life also. These are little things but everyone shouldn't lost this sweet moments which belong to us.For me i am fortunate that i have little time to spend with my family,go out for a long ride with my wife, enjoying taking break from my hectic schedule.

I remember it clearly on my mind. It was our first summer together and my boyfriend let me go with him in Zambales. And I experienced to swim in the beach, yes that was my first time setting foot in the salty water of the sea. The feeling of the sand under my feet, and the fresh windy air that you can't find in the city. I would never ever forget that, and I will be back next summer to experience it again. I just don't know if I can still travel by that time I'll be 8 months pregnant or so... Waaaaahhh. I want to swim again in the sea, by the way I only learned how to swim when I was there in Zambales.

Wow! I am picturing all of this in my head as it has been almost two years since I set foot on a beach myself. This sounds absolutely wonderful! It will be something you will never, ever forget and at least for now you get to escape back to there in your mind like you have just done now! Thanks for responding and sharing this rhyannefranz.

Back in Australia I lived on the coast so you have no idea how much I miss it. My work keeps taking me to places where the beach is just not within easy reach. The last time I was on one was in Sri Lanka and I went in after a late night business meeting with some potential partners at a restaurant beside the ocean. You can imagine the look of surprise on the faces of the people I was meeting with when I asked them to hold my clothes but I didn't care. lol.

Two years? You are seriously missing out on how good and relaxing it feels the first time you feel the water hit your feet and looking to the horizon and seeing the vastness of the world around you.

My simple pleasures are being with my children and Hubby everyday.Being able to watch my children grow is a big pleasure. And talkng to the rest of my family as much as I can is another. One other pleasure is being able to help people is a great one too. When you help people you end up with a great pleasure knowing you are doing a good deed. The greast pleasure of all is taking my boys to the park and being able to see all they approve at in all they do. And being able to sit back and watch your hubby play with the children. My hubby is so good with the boys he is always making funny noises to make them laugh and when he tries so hard to comfort them when they are sick it puts a smile on my face.

Children grow so fast and it is amazing to see them go from being so dependent on us to developing their own personalities and then their independence! I can definitely relate to the joys of giving too. We get back from life all the we give in life and helping others is so rewarding. The best thing about your experiences with your husband and boys too is that no matter how old they become you will always have this vision of these moments in your mind! Thanks for responding Seppy and welcome to mylot too!

This is so true Even when my hubby goes to work and I'm home with the boys the only thing I can think about is the last thing he did with the boys that made them laugh and how he comforted them so well with his loving arms. Thank you for such a nice comment. Happy Mylotting

Ahh the simple pleasures in life, I dwell in many. It makes life easier and much more happier. I love watching my kids and grandbabies grow. I adore making them laugh and smile, never can get enough of it. I can even explain how watching a small childs eyes light up and hearing them laugh makes me feel. My other simple pleasures are walking in the woods, reading, talking to my best friend, husband, and mom. To stay in bed an extra hour on Sundays to cuddle with my husband is just awesome! Working outside with the family doing wood is another pleasure, I know it is work too but we have such good discussions! Watching wildlife with the family, watching Tessa try and catch a frog .. there are just so many and Im glad that I get to enjoy them all.

That it does Ithink, that it does! Work definitely feels a lot less like work when we have family and friends around us and can interact freely and humourously while doing it. I am yet to be a Grandparent but it is another thing I am definitely looking forward to in the future because I will get to enjoy the best of my children's children and then hand them back! Thank you very much for sharing and for responding to the discussion.

One of my simple pleasures is actually performing for and impressing people with my magic. As a magician I really feel happy whenever there's an applause or when someone says "How do you do that?" For me it means that I have successfully entertained people and that made me happy as well. Also spending time with friends and the people I love makes me really happy.

If I can catch on my beauty sleep, that would make me a very very happy lady. I am happy when I think my makeup looks nice. I am happy if I think I look good. I am happy to see my pug, wagging her tail when she's happy to see me. I am happy to have my pug snuggle up beside me, following me around. I am happy when I look at the stars, the moon, and enjoy the gentle night breeze. I am happy when I see the flower/ plants that I planted bloom and grew..ahh..there's countless simple pleasures in my life..:-) After all these, I am happy to be able to share it with you..HAHA

I am inspired by the thought that there are many mylot members who have responded to this discussion, sitting at their computers all over the world and smiling as they stop and think about all these little things that truly make them happy! Good for you for being one of those that are able to acknowledge and appreciate the things in life that are most important. I don't believe this attitude is wrong at all! The only thing negative about it is your self doubt..... The key to life also includes balance. Being able to succeed AND be grateful for the simpler things in life sounds like one of the pretty good balances to me! All good things will come to those who believe they will and express constant appreciation for everything in life! Thanks for responding wiseshopping.

The sunrise and the awakening songs of the birds. Watching the squirrels gather their food. The wind in my hair. The air that I exchange with the trees. The sparkle in my children's eyes. Morning hugs. Saying I Love You. Praying. Meditation. Riding my bike. A tall glass of ice cold water. A cup of hot tea and a good book. Learning, studying, and anything creative I can do with my hands. Playing with my dogs. Playing with my Grandchildren. The feel of a delicate flower and its sweet fragrance. Writing. Cooking with Love and patience. A good nights sleep. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Dancing in the rain. Just being in the moment. Sharing my Love. Volunteering for good causes. Watching a funny movie. Reading my Bible and understanding it. Learning a new language. Gazing into the stars. Wishing on a fallen star. The sound of the waves, the smell of the salt water on the beach, the beautiful hues of blue in the water. These are just a few and lets not forget intelligent conversation with a friend.

Dancing in the rain is an absolute joy as well. I don;t dance actually but I do love to stand in the rain while the water hits my face. I love the smell of the rain also. You may count me in one of the unfortunates, coz not much time to go in theatres to watch movies. Life is mostly confined to children, their studies, cooking taking care of the family, and the rest of the time, some part time work. On weekends there is the tension of pending works that could not be completed on weekdays. So quite hectic life....

Oh! But surely eshaan there are highs associated with all of this too from time to time yes? Your children doing well at their studies, them laughing full of joy, a meal together as a family talking about the day, the sense of accomplishment when a job is completed and you can sit and relax with all the children asleep! It is important that we all find the simple joys and hold on to then no matter how insignificant they may seem sometimes. Thanks for taking part in the discussion.

Very interesting question. Well the only answer I would give is to spend time with my husband even if we are sitting in a dark room doing nothing but just talking to each other. I think that is the best thing that I can think of right now.I just forget all my worries when I am with him. I see a lot's of couples going out to movies or shopping or just traveling here and there just to enjoy and have fun but I don't see that with myself, not that I hate doing it but just because I prefer to be with him and we never get bored of talking to each other.

I try every day to walk where I can enjoy the simple sights and sounds of nature: wind blowing in the trees, waves crashing on the shore, the sound of seabirds calling, or watching them dive into the salty water, the laughter of children as they safely play. When my work is done, I like to read and be transported in my mind. I like to feel grateful every day for things in my life, which are not related to money or status, but my own personal moments of love and joy.

Oh I wish I had places nearby that would allow me to walk daily in areas like this! Reading is a wonderfully calming escape for many of us and allows us to transport ourselves to so many places that we may otherwise never see for real so I can relate to your joy in this. Expressing gratitude is SO important too, yet many of us just go through our daily grinds without really considering this aspect. I appreciate your thoughts on all of this paid2write and thank you for responding.

Ah James, your topic just made me want to cry. Simple pleasures are made fabulous by people who love... i have not felt love around me lately, so even eating cheesecake (make it "choke-cake") makes me cry. Later on though, my boys wake up and scramble all over me. That's double pleasure. Peace and quiet in the early morning with a cup of gloriously rich and hot cappuccino, a woman's magazine in hand, and a straight 4 hours to myself (to sleep, or watch a movie without any interruption, or just to be able to relax). Oh splendid! It's just a wish right now, though.

It was not supposed to make you cry pinky! Happy tears are OK though! I remember you making your cheesecake and everybody loved it so this is a definite joy! A cappucino in the quiet of the morning sounds great to me too but I guess I will have to stick to instant for now! And no argument regarding your boys; our children bring out the joy in all of us no matter how down we may feel at times. Keep wishing and believing and all will come to you. Thanks for responding.

Simple pleasure with no monetary expectations, with no fame or glory,is to put your ideas into one. Dream that things will be possible. When you dream, you put things behind. Dream where you be at peace, what you look at life, what if you have something to give, something to sacrifice about, what Love will gain on you, what dreams like is what you become. Always after the math of dreams, a pray , a grateful one that you have the opportunity to dream, that you have the possibility it will take place, your not asking or pleading for it, or you will not order God to fullfill it for you but you are grateful that you can still wait and the answer is in the will of God. Don't be in a hurry, because when you dream, you are not sure it will, but if its God will , there is nothing impossible to HIM. You may learn something out of curiosity, God has made everything possible, try to know things how he done it, the chemistry and the science that evolves in this planet has a theoretical explanation for everything, you dont have to have book to learn, observe and watch. Learning something new is fun, don't get yourself bored, enjoy your life while it last.God is with us, he finds way where you will feel comfortable with HIM, take love another chance in your heart, and the price is more rewarding. Appreciate that God has given, everything counts, as your hair been counted already and knows who you are, and what you're thinking about.

Dreaming is an important step towards visualization and then realization. It allows us to picture ourselves achieving and being all that we can be in so many different ways. We should all treat our life as an open book and be aware of all around us and that there are forces involved far beyond our comprehension. We never stop learning and must always be grateful for all we are and for all we have no matter how big or small. These are very nice points you have made mkrijos so thank you for responding and sharing them.
