Best free internet security software

Does anyone know what the best free internet security software is? Until recently I was using Mcafee but started having loads of problems so I had to change. I am now using Zonealarm firewall which I'm told is pretty good, anything has to be better than Windows firewall! I also have AVG antivirus, I've heard both good and bad things about it but it seems to be the no. 1 choice for free though it's detection rate is only about 85%. I have been told that Avir Antivirus is better, has anybody use this? What are your recommendations?

I had a bad experience with AVG several months ago. I was a free member of it and all of a sudden I was failing to download their updates so I decided to find a new one and I found AVAST Antivirus. I think they are pretty new to the market and they also free editions so I gave it a try and they are very seamless in terms of laoding as they do not get too much of your PC resources. They also are very good in catching viruses online. It is almost immediate and cleaning has been that easy. As to firewalls I am currently using Sunbelt Personal Firewall they also are good and is always on the lookout when there are sudden changes in the software that is installed in my PC.

I was a bit unsure of AVG so I tried Avast, it does a lot more to protect your pc and seems like a great tool for free. I find it has slowed my pc down a bit though and uses a lot of cpu power when it's scanning - thats on 2GHz CPU with 1GB RAM.

Oh I guess I have a much faster processor that's why. I am currently on a core 2 duo processor and it works quite okay for me. BTW, I changed my firewall to COMODO I realized they have this free firewall called the COMODO firewall Pro and they offer it for free and they are as good as my past firewall which was on a 30 day trial only. While COMODO is offering the same functionality free for life.

Comodo looks good, I checked that one out. It was either that or Zonealarm. I've got Zonealarm for now, it seems to be more popular.

I'm using avast internet security.. is not free but as you already know, it's with a borrowed serial.. It's the best I've ever used and I have to worry about anything anymore.. I combine it with zonealarm and now my computer have full protection..

I have AVG antivirus before but I encountered a problem updating it so I changed it. I am currently using Avast antivirus, until now, it is still working fine and updates regularly.

I'm using Avast now too, it does a lot more than AVG though my pc is a little slower. I still have Zonealarm firewall, I'm sure it's the best one you can get for free.

Alot of users are happy with AVG or Avast. I recommend you stay with the ZoneAlarm. Or have you thought about a all-in-one? Im happy with mine, I never thought Id say that but it works well. Check out toptenreviews.com, I use them alot for research. They have great reviews for AntiVirus, AntiSpyware and Firewalls. Hope this helps.

I used to use Norton but I don't find it very effective. I could also never completely uninstall it off my system.
