Do you love cakes?

I was brought up not having nice birthday parties. I don't have a mother who takes care of me and my father was in a religion where celebrating birthdays are not allowed. My grandmother who takes care of me was a Catholic so once I remember, she cooked spaghetti for me and my friends. We did not expect that there are many who are coming so what my Lola did was she secretly gathered the left-overs from the kids, and served them again to newcomer kids. Poor grandma but she made my day memorable. That is why I love cakes and I give cakes as gifts and I never fail to buy a cake for my daughters' parties. Cakes remind of what I missed on my childhood. How about you? Do you have specific flavors that you like or specific design. Share me your experience.

I love cakes, but the most favorite cakes my taste buds crave goes for the Sansrival and Brazo de Mercedez. I only get to eat them during occasions because too much sweets can harm my health. =) happy posting!

You bet! I also love Sansrival but I prefer the Red Ribbon version which comes in small round shapes. I think they are called Sylvanas. The nuts are more finely chopped compared to the ones on Goldilocks. But when it comes to Brazo de Mercedes, I love the yellow cream inside more than the white. I can't eat more of it also because of the immense calories it will give you and my family is more on the diabetic side so we really stay away from these kinds of sweets.

I understand. Wished that cakes shouldn't be too packed with a lot of calories, fats such as butter, margarine and shortening and sweetening agent like sugar. But that's how most cakes are created.

Yes, they are great for desserts. But there are times that I crave for them immensely that I just tell my husband to buy a roll for me and I eat it as snack while im myLotting! Good thing there are half roll cakes that you can always buy from Goldilocks or if I don't have a budget, I just buy them on slices. They are sure hit combination with coffee or an ice cold tea. Thanks for sharing!

You are lucky then, my dear. Opposed to me, my husband had nice birthday parties too when he was a kid since he had lots of pictures preserved by his mother. My mother-in-law even was able to preserve the little figurines from the birthday cakes of my husband. And she has a big cabinet where she collected all the figurines. My husband has a big family and he had six siblings. All of them celebrated their birthdays each year so you can imagine how many figurines my mother has in her cabinet. Thanks for sharing!

One of our favorite is rocky road also but I have to say I love black forest of Goldilocks. I have a new favorite currently from a pastry shop called Conti's and it is a Mango Flavoured Cake. It's like an ice cream cake with lots of fresh sweet mangoes on toppings and inside and cashew nuts. My husband's favorite are the cheesecakes variety but I don't get to buy them often since they are more expensive than the regular cakes that we buy.

When we were young, we were very poor. On our birthdays, my grandpa would buy us a chicken drumstick, which we would have to share among the four of us (grandpa, mum, my brother and I). My dad was working in the city then. So birthday cakes were not part of our past. However now, we celebrate all our birthdays with cakes. It is not so much the design; it is the flavour/taste. My parents love fruit and jelly cakes; the kids love their chocolate & vanilla cakes, my sister and I enjoy cheesecakes; while my brother, brother-in-law and hubby don't have any particular preference.

Yes, cakes really bring back good memories. That is why cakes have really evolved from the simple cake to the variety of cakes which we have today. When I read celebrity magazines, I even see cakes decorated with gems even diamonds. I don't like cakes though with fondant covers. I like the regular creamy icing with lots of flowers on top. This coming birthday of my eldest daughter, I am planning to buy her a very big cake with Winnie the Pooh characters. I can imagine the smile on her face that the cake will bring her.
