In a few words this is how i would understand them. Intelligent :-shows understanding, is clever and quick of mind, Creative:- bring something into existence, give rise to something or to originate. Does one need to be intelligent to be creative or creative to be intelligent ? Or Do you think there is any relation at all beween the two ?

This time I am in catch 22 situation! *laughs* I feel, intelligence and creativity are but inter related to a great extent and while all creative people are intelligent, all intelligent people may not be creative. Both are inherent and intelligent people are invariably distinctive and stand out. They are smart, quick, bright. They have the ability to think and understand things clearly and logically and very fast, faster than the average. Creative people are innovative, original, artistic. They have the inspiring ability to use their imagination to create new ideas or things. They may not be fast and in many cases they are overly slow. Real creative people are above deadlines, I am sure. *grin* Another thing, I feel is that creative people have to be intelligent, a subtle intelligence that does not border on extrinsic shows. While intelligent people steal the show with their promptness if not creativity. This means that an intelligent person is likely to become a creative person if he has the inclination to. So, I would sum up like this: If intelligence is the cover and pages, creativity is the thoughts of a book. (If that makes senseā€¦ )

I relly like the summing up part of it. It gives a very apt correlation between the two. But why the Catch 22 situation ? Trying to figure out if you are creative, intelligent or both ? You fit in perfectly to both the descriptions you have given. Inclination and motivation do play an inportant part in creativity. Thinking deeper into the subject of creativity one then gets into the terms of giftedness and genius as a use of validating creativity. Thanks for the wonderful Response Mimpi.

Of course. No doubt. People can have a high IQ and more EQ's as well. In other words Creatively intelligent people.I'm not talking about the extremes here like creative on the brink of insanity type, but those who use their creativity and intelligence together to be smart and get through life. Thanks again Mimpi.

You think so?? (@ You fit in perfectly to both the descriptions you have given.) I may be wrong but a serious ponder over this helped me to presume that intelligent people at with high IQs while creative people have more EQs. EQ gets you through life and that's what creative people are mostly about while intelligent people are chic and smart, which means more of IQs. Having said this, there is a definite correlation between the two. Both are but part of a book, as I was saying earlier. Thanks for a great discussion.

Intelligence is the ability to understand, a greater or lesser capacity to know or to learn. as far as i am concerned knowledge and intelligence are inter-related. knowledge is knowing things and intelligence is the way you plan or execute about the things. May be being creative means doing smart work rather then hard work. because people who do hard work are also almost intelligent, but there are some people who can complete anything very fast and who have an art in them which attracts towards everyone by the way they work, this is i suppose called as creativity.

well i honestly think they are at the other end of the pole. to me (i know many of you will disagree!!) but intelligent sounds so left brain and creative, so right brained! i am incredibly creative (i have been told so by dozens of people) but while i think i am smart to a degree, i dont think i am that intelligent.

Hi alok, It goes together for me, When a person is intelligent, he or she is capable of being creative...He will be guided by his mind and he will do a lot of readings and research to accomplish something..He will not stop creating or working on something because he has a broad knowledge and he is capable to absorb great information and ideas! And I believed that is has different categories!

It does go together, that much i believe too. The variable is really in what proportion if one may call it that. As one can measure intelligence in some ways, creativity does not get measured with the same standard.

Ian intelligent person can also bring something into existence I mean person can create the things and a creative brain can understand the things better. I am put to use these two words in co-relation I would like to say that He is so intelligent and creative that he will solve the problem what ever may come to face.I mean the intelligence and creativeness are combined to make an effect. How you see it please comment and have a nice day.

i think this are two different things and depends on the situation where to use it. when there is a require we need to use only our intelligence and only to solve some matter then we do it and even the same applies to creativity. but there if there is a need where we need to consider both to come up with new ideas and thoughts in order to get better results then the intelligence and creativity both are interelated to each other.

It's an interesting question. I think there has to be some intelligence for a person to be creative. It does not require a high degree of knowledge or intellect to be artistic, but it does require some insight, a creative mind has to be an enquiring mind. A very intelligent person may not be creative and may lack some insight, but on the whole I think the more intelligent a person is the better they are able to communicate. An intelligent person can be highly articulate or literate, so they can be more creative in the way they share their knowledge through language. I think having intelligence will also enable someont to think more creatively about problem solving.

Hey there, I think it has realtions but I think both of them are really different attributes that a person could have. I've been taught that there are many types of intelligence. I went to this seminar once and they say there are 7 types of intelligence. I could not remember all of them but here's what I remeber.. Mathematical, linguistic, musical, logic.. that is what I remember. I think creativity is a form of intelligence and usually a person who uses his/her right brain more will be more creative than others. ^^

I think I am more to intelligent than being creative. I am not a creative person, but being creative without so called intelligent is useless, since you would never know what you are doing and what for. I think you should be able to be intelligent first before being creative. Because if you have a good intelligence you would be able to be creative by making something different.

I do agree that you need to have some intelligence to express and bring out your creativity. Further creativity is an aspect of intelligence. So they do go hand in hand. Thanks for responding.
