Talk to people you think have things in common. It's not essential but at least you can talk about something. Or just go up to people by random and ask them a question or help them out. The main thing is to be nice, smile! =D (for some people it's pretty hard) , offer to help when necissary. And be yourself~ (way overused but it's true in the end)

to be honest is the very best thing in making new friends. second, find your common interest, while you both get the same interested hobbies, it would be great help if u have topics to start with. third, treat your new friends is also a good way to improve your relationship.
