Have you ever made an "alter ego" online? At myLot?

We all take on user names. But what about a user personality. How about being someone else online. A new personality or age or attitude. Even a different nationality. I have never done that. I guess that I'm just too honest. Even though I know that most people would have no idea if I was pretending or not, I just couldn't try to be anyone other than myself online. Maybe I'm just not a good liar. Or maybe I am too easily "read like a book", but I just could not have an "alter ego" do my online chatting for me. I suppose that it might even be fun. Especially if I could say or do something that I would not normally say or do. Have you ever used an "alias" personality to chat online? Tell me what that was like. If you haven't done this, have you thought about it? Why or why not?

I would never be able to do that , I would feel to much like I was lying to everyone and that is just not me . I did read a book about one who did this to another woman though , she let this woman believe that she was a man and the woman feel in love with the other person thinking it was a man . When her ex-husband found out he ended up killing his ex-wife because the one that was pretending to be a man shared the same last name as someone who had hurt him in the past , and the idea that his ex was going to leave him for this man set him off . It just goes to show that pretending to be someone else could inadvertantley affect someone lifes in such a way that you could start something that was not inteded to happen .

Nah is me what you see in type is what you get. Love me or hate me the choice is yours attitude I guess. I thought about being someone or a different personality in chat but then decided why. I don't like it when I am lied to so why go on and be someone I am not. A lie is a lie so be yourself is what I tell my friends. If I am wrong in mylot or if I offend someone I will say sorry most of the time but not all the time. Especially if the person that gets upset thinks they are always right and what others say is wrong well I could be someone I am not and agree with everything but then again thats lying as well. So if I post and upset 85% to 90% it is not intended. Would it be fun to be some other personality for a few am sure it would but then again some can't handle that either they get lost in that and forget who they were.

That's probably true that some people could really get lost in their new personalities and blur fantasy with reality. Thanks:)

No, I try to stay true. that way i don't have to remember who I am. :-) I could see myself getting lost in it all. Forget who I am signed in as and say something completely off the wall or "out of character"

I guess I always like character development in creative writing. You could come up with a whole history for your alter ego. Something really bizarre or funny maybe. Thanks

what u see is what u get w/me on mylot or in person. i have never tried to be anything or anybody i'm not. that would be hard to do. i don't lie & sure don't like to be lied to. if you are unhappy w/yourself to do something like that then u better be taking a good look at yourself & start making changes before it's too late.

I think there are probably some people who would create an alter ego to harm people. But I believe there are probably others who are doing it purely as entertainment. Their imagination takes over. As I said, I couldn't do it and I see you wouldn't either. Thanks:)

Hi ya rocketj1 I am like you I don't have or wouldn't have an 'alter ego' as I too am too honest. Not only that, think of all the people you would be decieving, it would make me feel very uncomfortable to do that. I am who I am!!

I suppose it might depend for some people on who they were pretending to be. If they suddenly could pretend to be adventurous or wealthy, they may find it fun. But if they are doing it to get something out of other people, like sympathy or some monetary gain. Then obviously it's wrong. Thank you so much and have a great day

Oh maaaan! I was picturing the scraggly hair, the dirty beard, the flower power van and the rest of your ensemble and now I'm thoroughly disappointed. Thanks (and groovy, man):)
