Is it true?

Hey I've heard that if your going to buy a blue-ray dvd player you shouldn't waste your money. I was told that you should by a PS3 instead because you get one of the best Blue Players as well as a game system, for a relativily similiar price. I was also told that Playstation constantly updates the PS3 making the Blue-ray player constantly ahead of the game, so it won't outdate like a regular blue-ray dvd player. I was just wondering if some people could confirm this, i'd like some opinions on this. Thanks for the help, I'm trying to decide which to buy before i go out and waste my money.

Uhmm..It's kind of like that. The PS3 is one cheap Blu-ray player. Most people just treat it as a Blu-ray player(because they hail the mighty 360 for reasons only a fanboy could understand.). But then yeah, you get the worth of your money by buying a PS3...It's a blu-ray player, a gaming console...It can even be your PC!(Install Linux on it.). It got the 10-year plan behind it, and it will really make a good deal out of your money. About the updates I'm...not really sure. But if you want a blu-ray player, buy the PS3. You will get the value for your money. A stand-alone blu-ray player is just a blu-ray player, that's a thing to consider.

What do you mean by the 10-year plan? Yea it seems like if your going to buy a blue-ray player you'd be crazy not to just buy a PS3 then again if you know your going to want to buy tons of games if you have it, you may want a stand alone blue-ray player so your not tempted to spend hundreds of dollars on games.

The 10 year plan means that they plan the console to have a lifespan of 10 years. They kind of told that back at the game conference stuff. It's a thing to consider, the 10 year plan. It gives you an assurance that they plan their system to last that long and will not seize support for it. They did it with the PS1 and the PS2. That's why they delayed the PS3 so much, to prepare it for this. The blu-ray was part of this plan, and it might pay off, blu-ray just won the format wars against the HD-DVD. Yah that's one thing to consider, if you're not really a gamer of sorts then a sleek blu-ray stand alone player is enough.

Ah ok, i don't know if i would say that ps1 or ps2 had the means to last 10 years as in my opinion ps2's technology was well surpassed while it was still around. Its good to know they will continue support for it for the next 10 years. I am no longer a gamer as i only game on the pc systems have become a thing of the past for me, but over time this may change again.

my husbands done a lot of research into this and he said it is better to buy a PS3 then just a normal Blue-Ray player since the PS3 is actually cheaper then the player and you also get the game counsel as well.

Yea i've done some research myself, i was more curious what owners of ps3 thought about it. If it was worth the money, and if the blue-ray player is updated as often as i've been told. Thanks for your input.

I don't know about the updates, but I can tell you that the Blu-Ray player is awesome! We have a regular Blu-ray player that costs more than the PS3 and then I got a PS3, and the quality is about the same. I haven't used the PS3 much for games yet, mostly just for the Blu-ray. But I did buy some games and I hope eventually I'll have time to play them.

Thats what I did I bought my ps3 mainly because of the bluray. And whats funny is because of the ps3 the bluray won the war over hd since most people bought the ps3 because of the bluray at the time since there wasnt to many good games out at the time the ps3 came out.

I agree with most everyone that the PS3 is the one to get. However, being a PS3 owner myself, sometimes I worry that the blu-ray might cause issues down the road as the DVD drive in the PS2 did. Anyone who owned a PS2 for a long amount of time remembered the day at least one of them started to not play different games...then all the games...then some movies...etc.
