"Obama is descended from slave owners and slave traders" NOT SLAVES!

Yes, it is true. Many descendants of slaves see a kindred spirit in Barrack Obama. Such is not the case. Read more about that here. http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/barack_obama_and_slavery.html I say that it is predictable that Barrack Obama, descendant of slave owners and slave traders, would promote socialism, the ultimate enslaver of the true human spirit. What do you say?

Well I seriously don't get the whole thing were people are so proud because he's black. I seriously don't see the color of his skin, I think he would like for people to forget the fact that he's half white. My husband is white and his ancestors came from Africa but he can't say he's African American. He just made a friend in the military on his last deployment, a black Irishman, lol. And you know a lot of black Americans do not want the white Americans to know that even in the U.S. there were black slave overs and traders and they don't want to know that there are black men in the Sons of Confederate soldiers that are outraged by how the history books portray slavery and what Lincoln did for them. When will the race thing end. We are all human. I seriously doubt that if it wasn't for the color of Obama's skin, if he had only received his pigment from his mother's side he would not be in this election.

Yes, some free blacks did own slaves. My favorite tidbit from history concerning this is about the black women who owned their husbands! Yes, it is true! Prior to the emancipation of the slaves, some free black women did own their husbands. Ever hear the phrase "Put him on the block and sold him down the river"? Some say that comes from what husband owning free black women did if they caught their slave husbands cheating. BTW: I totally agree that if 0bama were all white, as a Senator with his limited experience he would have zero chance to get the nomination much less be elected. The USA is trying too hard to prove it is not racist.

lol, Thanks so much for the best responses... if it wasn't for you I'd be feeling pretty depressed. The Obama fanatics have been hitting me hard lately here. It's really getting ugly on Mylot. Keep spreading the truth, it's starting to feel like we've got a real war here in the U.S. right now.

That article reads like "six degrees of Kevin Bacon", set up to 1400 years in the past!! Surely nobody is taking this seriously?

If your point is that who we are descended from should have little bearing on whether or not one should be considered for President, then I agree with you. I posted the link because, first off, it is factual. 0bama's mother was white and some of her anscestors likely did own slaves. 0bama's father was an African muslim whose ansestors did trade slaves. This information should be important to the individuals who identify with 0bama merely because they see him as a fellow black man that can empathize with their plight. 0bama does not share the heritage of being descended from slaves as do so many American blacks. To me this information is of no consequence, but it means everything to some 0bama supporters. They should have the truth. 0bama is not a downtrodden minority who the culture of the USA has held down and held back. Neither were any of his ancestors. Just as 0bama has done so well in the USA, so can anyone.

Wow, that was a lot of information to digest in a short time! I know I will upset some people but I really think it is time to move on about the slavery issue. My descendants have never owned slaves (we were gypsies). I feel bad that it happened but how many people alive today was a slave? I think reparations is a crock and people really need to step up and be responsible for themselves and make their own way. That is the American Way!

Strictly on a legal logical basis, reparations are a crock, it is true. I know you understand, but I'm explaining for others. To be eligible for reparations on a logical basis it would be necessary to show the person receiving compensation suffered in some way. Fact: All decendants of slaves in the USA currently alive benefited because their ancestors were brought to the USA. All the African countries from which slaves came are 3rd world poverty basket cases. In which of these countries would decendants of slaves be better off? NONE! The only suitable appropiate reparations is a one way ticket to the African country of one's choice. Any takers?

If you can get an English court to buy that arguement. Although, there is at least one other concept that applies. That would be that generational debt can not be passed on. One of the things that distinquishes western civilization from others is that debts people owe are not passed on to their children. That is, your parents can owe millions when they die and you don't have to pay it just because you were their child. Using that arguement, those who enslaved your ancestors owe you nothing.

I agree. I also think this article includes some "inconvenient truths" concerning not only Obama but also the entire question of slavery and it's history.

Yes, it does. I particularily like the part about whites not daring to go into the interior and capture slaves themselves. Like, come on! Whites are even still today afraid to go where blacks are in control of things and have them out numbered.
