Barca claim derby win

Lionel Messi's stoppage-time penalty gave FC Barcelona a 2-1 away win in the derby against Espanyol........... Ferran Corominas struck after 19 minutes to give Espanyol the lead after Victor Valdes had fumbled horribly and Barcelona FC struggled to find a way back into the game until Thierry Henry levelled somewhat fortuitously half an hour into the second period......... RCD Espanyol played the whole of second half with 10 men following the dismissal of Nene and looked to have held on for a point........ But Samuel Eto'o won a penalty in the last minute of added time and Messi stepped up to coolly slot home the winner.......... It was a dramatic end to the last ever Catalan derby at Montjuic, but the game will also sadly be remembered for some ugly events in the stands which saw the game delayed for several minutes late in the second half........... The game was brought to a standstill by refree Luis Medina Cantalejo after flares were thrown in the direction of home fans............. The players left the pitch for several minutes........... There was a talk of the match being abandoned, but play did eventually resume.......... HAPPY MYLOTTING

Sad to see fan trouble now beginning to grow in Spain. Italy was notorious for the same and it happens ever so often there, but now Spain... Looks like the Leagues need to have strict rules to stamp it out. But, I think Barca were lucky to get a win yesterday and it was cruel on Espanyol to have conceded so late in the day!! Cheers! Ram

That's great news! I didn't know how the game ended, when I last checked the score it was 1-0 for Espanyol. I thought it's going to be another defeat for FC Barcelona... It's good they managed to win. They really needed the points and the morale rise from this Catalan derby.
