Do people go nuts over the skillcapes?

Another day & I keep getting asked if I have any skill capes. I find the things ridiculous. I see so many players who literally BUY the cape that I have no respect for them. A skill cape you can get by simply standing in the G.E. buying supplies to work there & resell ( usually taking a gp loss ) isn't impressive, It's stupid. usually the people who do this neglect most of their other skills in the process. I prefer to have ALL my skills high, not just one! How do you feel about the capes?

I've got mixed feelings on skill capes. I was excited about them when they came out, and there's one I have that I kept even though I'm now a non member for the time being. I have 7 skills that are 99. My first 99, not surprisingly, was fletching. It's a very easy skill to level. However, I didn't get mine by buying supplies. I got it in conjunction with woodcutting, which is my favorite skill, still to this day. My second skill to reach 99, of course was woodcutting. I got both of those before skill capes had even been mentioned. I didn't get the 99s for any purpose other than they were skills I enjoyed doing. I did fletching to make more money off the logs I got while woodcutting. I then alched all those bows I made, which brought me to 99 magic. Even though I bought nature runes, since I am not a big fan of runecrafting, I made a nice amount of money. I did get 99 magic after skill capes were released, but I did not get it for the purpose of getting a skill cape. My other level 99 skills are all combat related. They weren't done in any attempt to impress anyone, they simply happened in the course of playing the game the way I like to. For me, that's what it's about, playing the game the way you enjoy it. I have found skill capes can be quite an annoyance. Even though I've gone nonmember, I left my woodcutting cape on my character. It's my favorite skill, and the level I am most proud of. I am constantly asked to do the emote for the cape, and what other skills I have that are 99. I have no doubt that it's simply a matter of a short time before I remove and drop the woodcutting cape to enjoy a less annoying environment.

I'd have thought that some people would be rather proud and happy to show off a woodcutting cape in a non-members world, but I guess not everyone would feel this way.

Much the way I play. I usually try to focus on my lowest skills 7 work from the bottom up but of course combat , wc & fletching are some of my highest.

It's not the cape itself that is the annoyance, it's the reaction to the cape by other players. I could ignore them, but that's just not the way I am. I feel the need to say something, whether it's thanking them for their "nice wc cape" compliment or telling them to mind their own business when they tell me I need to get a life. I get some personal satisfaction in having the cape, mainly because in my mind, it shows outwardly what I most enjoy in the game, which is woodcutting. It would be nice to not have it garner so much attention at times though.

I suppose skillcapes are regarded as a high valued object that only the "very best" are able to get. But yes, I agree that these skill capes are over valued, and they mean nothing if you only have one skill that's particularly high, and the rest are averaging to nothing. On the other hand, you have to admit that getting a skill to 99 is a difficult achievement for anyone, and not everyone has the patience and dedication to reach this landmark.

Actually when you just have to stand in the G.E. fletching logs you've bought it's not all that hard.

I like skillcapes really I'm trying to get a 99 runecrafting because it is the one skill that I will not lose money with and I think the emote looks pretty kewl.

Now that's a respectable skill cape. So long as your making the right runes you'll make money. Just don't buy the essence unless your making cosmics or better.

When working our way to 99 runecrafting it'll take quite a while so just keep on going don't get distracted.

Hey gbeast. 99 Runecrafting, eh? That sounds like a really, really good goal. Very seldomly do I see someone with a Runecrafting skill cape. It's going to be a hard task to accomplish, but remember; it's all for fun. Don't feel like you have to do it, or else you will probably quit. Have fun in what you do, and take pride! I can understand showing off. Just show off something that's impressive. Standing around whitteling on logs you bought from nonmembers in the GE isn't impressive. If you can get the skill while standing in the GE I'm not going to be impressed by your cape.

There are too many skills that are easy to train when you have enouh money but you are really good when your are in first 1000 in firemaking not when you have the cape.

That's another skill I see people wasting a lot of logs on. I got my 83 firemaking from burning shades on pyres in Morton. At least that's a respectable way of doing it. The R.S. highscore feature wasn't working last night so I couldn't check my rankings.

I can hoenstly say, I got fletching by buying the logs, and buying the bowstrings. I'm not very proud of it. I recently just bought all of the logs needed to get level 99 firemaking, also. I know the firemaking cape is pretty popular, one of the easiest to achieve. The reason I'm getting it, is because I'm in love with the emote. Like, IN LOVE. Hahaha. I also want 92 firemaking, so I can get that Adze, lol.

I'm relying on the evil trees & burning pyre logs in Morton to get my fire cape.

PRETTY obvious I had no idea what this was because I had to go look it up. Never played this game - doesn't sound like one I want to learn. But the last Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich as some funny online gaming stuff in it.

The skillcapes when worn, will show ur achievement of getting a 99 skill which not everyone can do it. They show how dedicated you are to the game, and that you have the patience and determination. I feel that the skillcapes are pretty cool because of their emotes. I'm currently working on my ranged to 99 and its 88 atm.

99 range...Now that's one that's seldom seen & actually a respectable cape. I just get tired of the constant hounding of people who more or less BUY a skill cape standing around in the GE saying " Why haven't you got one?". I don't have one because I actually play the game instead of standing here whitteling logs bought in the GE. Most of the people who ask that also only have 1 good skill all the rest ( the ones you actually have to do somewhere besides a bank & put some thought into getting ) are low. I'd prefer to be better all around in all my skills.

Like I stated above, I bought my Fletching Cape. I also stated, that I bought all the logs. I re-read what you said, and I sold them all. I'm currently in Ape Atoll picking up my friend's Teaks he's powercutting. I plan on Powercutting Teak Trees on Ape Atoll after 99 Firemaking, using an Inferno Adze, getting extra Firemaking exp and reducing the amount I have to drop.
