Have you ever sat in a chair so long, your legs started to cramp?

I used to work for hours on end at the computer. Sometimes, I'd sit so long, my legs would cramp or go to sleep. Turns out, my computer chair was cutting off the circulation at the back of my knees. Now, I use a big recliner for my computer chair and my legs rarely cramp when I'm working at the computer. Also, I try not to spend more than an hour at a time on the computer before getting up and doing something else. Do you sit for so long in front of the computer that your leg or foot falls asleep or starts to hurt? How often do you get up and move around?

I often experience bad cramp when I sit too long and that normally happens when I surf the net for hours. Sometimes during sleep I also experience a sharp cramp on my lower leg, I would just try to stand up but the pain is unbearable. I sense not only sitting down too long is the cause but the body maybe lacking nutrient or sodium. I have been cutting down salt lately.

You're right about that! And, I've heard that potassium can help relieve leg cramps. Lots of potassium in fruits and bananas. Thanks for the tips.

You'll laugh at this but my chair that I sit on in front of the computer is a hard wooden captain's chair....but I found the most comfortable way to sit in it, is.....yoga style..you know..crossed legged..LOL. But I make a habit of getting up now and then...can't stand to sit long periods of time anyway...too restless.

I could actually stand to do more yoga. I used to have a regular routine I did faithfully every day, but now I'm so busy I don't do it as much as I used to...and believe me, my body is starting to feel it

I have done that. My legs get to hurting, and my knees go out of place. I did finally realize that it was from so much sitting. I try to get up every thirty minutes to an hour. I think it is scary, because I know that it can cause blood clots. Not so good.

And, too much sitting can lead to varicose veins.

I work at a computer and a desk. I am up and moving around every hour. Otherwise yes- my legs hurt and my back does too. I hurt my back years ago so I can't sit for too long before it tightens up. How comfy- a recliner to sit in when working online. I would get to comfortable and stay online too long. When I'm home I'm off and on several times a day- but never for too long.

Hello beauty queen. I also sit at my computer for a long time if I do not have to go to work during my days off, but once in a while I stand up to walk around when I feel a little tired from sitting too long. In fact, it is not good for us to sit too long before the computer without letting ourselves relaxed for some minutes. Take good care of yourself, my dear beauty queen.

I haven't had my legs cramp, but I've had my bottom and back hurt really bad. Sometimes, that will make it hard for me to stand up straight if I have been working on the computer for a long time.

It all depends on the chair. I can not stand up for very long, so i need to stay sitting, and since i need to stay off of my feet, I need to sit in comfortable chairs, and couches. my couch is old, but it's comfortable for me to sit on when I work. I get cramped if I sit on the bus for too long, or in a church pew. LOL

I need to get up more then I do. I admit to that. I do make myself get up and walk a couple of times a day and I also get up to do house chours. I hate getting leg cramps but I know that sitting to long in one place can cause cramps.

As one with fibromyalgia and arthritis, my legs can cramp up even if I'm in my comfy recliner. I've learned that I have to get up and walk, then sit a while, then get up and walk some more. Sitting and standing/walking hurt. Sometimes getting into bed hurts most of all!

i had cramps too after sitting too long on the chair...but it isn't my legs...it's my butt. My butt actually cramp after 4 hours of sitting on some cheap plastic chair. Nowadays, i place a soft cushion on my chair. I'll get up and move around every half an hour to relax myself.

Hi beautyqueen26! Is a matter of fact that the same thing happens to me every day.. I spend most of my day time in front of the computer working and more than once my legs starts to cramp.. I get up of the chair about every 2 hours because sometimes I forget about my legs and the only thing that I think about is to focus on what I'm doing...

Yes, I have had that problem. I work at my computer all day. I try to get up and move around every couple of hours, if not more often. I also get aches in my neck and shoulders. I try to do neck and shoulder rolls. Getting up to move around helps with that, too. Kelly

oh yes... everytime i think... i don't know why... i think it is because my blood circulation is not that good... that's why i can't stay in front of the computer for too long... every 1 or 2 hours max, i have to stand up and stretch myself before i can continue my work again... take care and have a nice day...

When I sit on the chair, I always move my legs and change my sitting pose. Thus, most of the time my legs are Ok. My legs cramped just for few times only.

yup, though not in the office. when i went to vancouver, it was a non stop 15 hour flight. so you could only imagine how long i was stuck seated in that plane. actually, i kept on standing and walking along the aisle the flight attendant asked me what's wrong.

Yep, I've sat in chairs for so long that my legs would start cramping. I remember my first semester in college, for example. That semester, I had a history class. The seats in the class were really small and tiny. They were so small that half of my body would be hanging off the side of the seat because I, in all honesty, could not fit entirely on the seat. Believe me when I say that those seats were extremely uncomfortable and having to sit in it without standing up for an hour was not fun. My legs would be killing me by the time the class ended. Fortunately, the university got rid of all those seats and got a kind that was drastically more comfortable.

Haha, that happens to me sometimes! but the thing is, i play music while sitting in front of the computer, so my legs move to the rythm haha, they dont cramp as much, cuz the movements helps blood circulations as well!
