Noah's Flood-Real or Myth?

A topic that has always been of great great interest to students of the Bible is the Flood, an alleged event more cataclysmic than any other natural disaster in history. We will concentrate on the great number of difficulties,, impossibilities, and unanswered question accompanying the Biblical account. Anyone believing in the Flood must provide rational answers to the following questions: (a) Gen. 6:16 says, "A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above;...." How could so many creatures breathe with only one small opening which was closed for at least 190 days--150 days plus an additional 40 days (Gen. 8:3-6)? (b) Gen. 6:15 says, "The length of the ark shall be 300 cubits(450 feet-ed), the breadth of it 50 cubits (75 feet-ed.), and the height of it 30 cubits (45 feet-ed.)." How could two of every animal survive for approximately 10 months on a boat encompassing1,518,750 cubic feet? The food alone would absorb tremendous space. (c) Gen. 6:17 says, "I do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die."Gen. 7:4 reinforces this point, "...and every substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth." Yet, how would a flood destroy sea animals, such as whales, porpoises, sea snakes, dolphins, amphibians, and all animals entirely underwater? (d) Gen. 7:8-9 says, "Of clean beasts, and of beast that are not clean, and fowls of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and female,as God had commanded Noah." The problems associated with this account of the creatures entering the Ark are particularly interesting. How did animals that are restricted to certain parts of the earth get to the Ark? Penguins, kangaroos, polar bears, koala bears, and many others would have to have crossed vast oceans. How animals from other continents managed to cross the seas can only be surmised. How did many of the animals withstand climatic changes? Many of those from polar regions could not have withstood the heat of the Middle East. How were animals prevented from killing their natural prey? Slow animals from other continents--snails, sloths, turtles, and so forth--must have started their journey to the Ark before the earth was created! How did only 8 people feed and water the world's greatest zoo for many months? How was the Ark kept sanitary, since there was only one window and one door? How did the animals know where to go when the time arrived to enter the Ark? After being released, how did they return to their respective regions of the world? The vegetation which many animals eat only grows in certain parts of the world. How was it brought to the Ark for storage? Are we to believe that two of every species--two dogs, two cats, two elephants, two snakes, and so forth -entered the Ark? If so, then are we to also believe, for example, that the tremendous variety of dogs in the world today, from the great dane to the chihuahua, descended from two of the species? This would mark a tremendous evolutionary change in only a few thousand years. Yet, biblicists are the ones who denounce the theory of evolution. And how did the animals know when to seek the Ark?The text implies they just came voluntarily. more questions coming.........

Not to mention that it would have been physically impossible for a vessel that size to survive that long at sea. The largest known wooden ship was half that size, and it's a wonder she didn't sink. The problem with ships made of wood, you see, is the larger you make them, the more likely they'll develope leaks and ship sag. How did Noah get all the animals? Including the ones on entirely different continents? How did he fit so many creatures and enough food to feed them and his family onto a vessel that technically doesn't have the capacity to store such a huge amount of animals? How did the freshwater and saltwater fish survive, when the water would have either been too salty or too diluted for one or both of those kinds of fish to survive. There are no geological records indicating a world-wide flood. The Great-Flood story reeks of mythology. I'm sure there may have been a flood of great proportions at one time, but there was NEVER a flood which covered the highest mountains and all of the earth. It's physically, scientifically, and realistically impossible.

(j) Gen. 7:13 states, "In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Sham, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark. "If the human race began anew from Noah and his sons, are we supposed to believe the wide variations among the earth's people developed in short period since the Flood? Are we supposed to believe that the fair -haired Swede, the brown-skinned, dark-haired Indian, and the black-skinned native came from the same ancestors? (k) Gen. 7:4 says, "For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from the face of the earth." But what had the beast and the creeping things done to excite God's anger? They had committed no sin;they had eaten no forbidden fruit, and they had not tried to reach the tree of life. (l) Gen. 8:5 and 8:13 state the Flood covered the earth and its mountains. If so, where did all the water go? (m) Lastly, the questions raised by Gen. 8:19 must be answered. The verse says, "Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark." How were the animals preserved after leaving the Ark? There was no grass except such as had been submerged for a year. How were the herbivores taken care of until the earth was again clothed with vegetation? There were no animals to be devoured by the carnivores, except those which were on the Ark. From whence came their food?

Okay, the bible is not a historical reference. You can not use the bible as proof that something happened, you have to rpove it through histroical documentation or physical evidence. The concept of the entire Earth flooding is impossible. If Noah and hiw wife were the last people on Earth before the flood, that means they had to have bred with their children to repopulate. I do not believe that we are inbred descendants of a man who build a giant zoo on a boat that can stay on the sea for a year without any problems. If Noah and his wife were the last people, and the Bible puts the Earth at 6,000 years old, then Noah's enthnicity, whatever that may have been, has evolved into several different races of people in a very short amount of time. This is a strange concept. So Europeans, Africans, Asians, Arabs, and every other known race descended, within 6,000 years maximum from one man who reprocduced with his children..... Someone correct me please, this story is quite disgusting. Someone try and explain to me how it works if it isn't how I think....

The very same scientific community that says there was never enough water to flood the earth is also the same community that says that some of the rock deposits around the rockies were left by the last flood of the ice age. Kind of like having your cake and eating it too isn't it? If there was never enough water to flood the earth than how could there be rock deposits from a flood that left rocks in the rocky mountains?

Scientist say as little as 20,000 years ago almost all of Michigan and to the North was still covered in water. The very same scientist also say their hasn't been any massive continental shifts for millions if not billions of years before that time. So exactly like I said there was water hundreds of feet above our current sea level but they still say no there was never a world wide flood. It stands to reason if the sea level rose hundreds of feet over that great of an area than obviously there was world wide flooding. I am not saying the whole world was covered in water but obviously if you were alive or even close to this time frame than yeah it sure would seem like. So once again its having your cake and eating it too, saying that most of the northern hemisphere was covered in water but than try to say that no where else was effected.

I would say more like the interpretation was wrong. If your home and all the surrounding cities were wiped out in a great flood and you had no knowledge of other areas would you say my area got flooded out? Chance are you would be saying my world has been destroyed in a flood. Everyone uses the current mountain range in Turkey as the same Ararat in the bible to try and make a scientific determination on biblical accounts but they don't even know if thats what Noah was talking about what he called mount Ararat in his day could very well be a lot different than what we do today. We might never know the exact interpretation of what happened but one thing is for sure the area certainly could have been flooded very deep by looking at geological accounts 10.000 years ago.

Might point is that people interpret it to be by their knowledge not by Noah's, obviously the story was either originally wrote or passed down by Noah. I have never said I interpret the bible to have literal meaning. Almost everything in it is either a parable or symbolic. If a writer writes a story thats symbolic and someone or is based on his knowledge does that make it a lie or fake? Obviously not.

The Noah's Flood was a reality and not a myth. Please try to understand that when one God Almighty decides to do a thing, then no one can stop it.Prophet Noah was ordered to collect pairs of animals in the Ark.This is what he did.The last divine Book, the Holy Quran also supports the Noah's Flood: "Before them the people of Noah also denied. They called our servant a liar, and said,"He is a madman.",and he was rebuked. At last,he called out to his Lord, saying,"I am overcome:take now Thy vengeance."Then we opened the gates of heaven with torrential rain and We caused the earth burst forth into springs, and the water met to fulfill the decreed end.And we bore Noah upon a thing made of planks and nails, which floated under our care." (Surah Al-Qamar-9,10,11,12...........Chap-27.......The Quran)

Can anyone believe today that the whole world was destroyed by flood, save only Noah and his family and a male and female of each species of animal that entered the Ark? There are almost a million species of insects alone. How did Noah match these up and make sure of getting male and female to reproduce life in the world after the flood had spent its force? And why should all the lower animals have been destroyed? Were they included in the sinning of man? This is a story which could not beguile a fairly bright child of five years of age today.

I don't doubt the divine power of ONE True God(not the god of the bible, quran,or any revealed religion). In order to believe the account of the Flood, you have to give up your reasoning, common sense, and intellect. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. You are just doubting the divine powers of one God Almighty. He had created this universe and can do any thing with it at His own.How could the hand stick of Prophet Moses(pbuh)turn to be a big serpent? How Prophet Jesus(pbuh)took birth without any male's intervention? How the last Prophet Muhammad(pbuh)had divided moon into two parts?........Obviously all these miracles were done by God Almighty to support His Prophets.God Almighty can do every thing at any time and we cannot stop Him from doing any thing............We have to believe in what God Almighty has told us in all divine Books especially the last one,the Holy Quran.
