Yes. I grew up in "tornado alley". Also, my mother-in-law had an F5/F6 tornado, the strongest tornado ever recorded. It was a mile wide and destroyed everything, including leaving a noticeable rip across the ground. It destroyed almost all of the homes to the south of her, destroyed the air force base barracks down the street, and did almost nothing substantial to her house. Most of the damage was because my BIL left the door open when he made a mad dash for the storm cellar.

I've sat through several hurricanes. But I think the worst storm I was really CAUGHT in was a "simple" rainstorm. It rained so heavy and so suddenly that you couldn't see more than a few yards in front of you. It was too dangerous to slow down and pull over to the shoulder because you couldn't see what was there, nor could you be seen if you pulled over. All the cars had to just keep moving along and pray that no one stopped and got us all killed. It was on the interstate, so traffic wasn't slow. Very scary.

When I was a kid, a tornado ripped through my hometown and did a huge amount of damage. I remember it clearly to this day.

I was in Hurricane Charlie (the worst) and quite a few others, but they were only tropical storm effects so not as bad.
