I Took Ziggy (my pup) For His Very First Walk Today!

Ziggy was allowed out into the big wide world today bless and he was such a good boy. He walked on the lead really well and sat and the roadside and crosses with me, got all excited when he saw someone and got pampered until he saw a neighbour and got so excited he peed on their shoe, oops, they forgave him. We have discovered he is frightened of buses as he cowered when ever one went past and he met a few doggies on his journey which he wasn't too sure about but the best one of all was my friends dog down the road walking along with a kitten on his head LOL. I've seen it all now, can you imagine a 6 stone Rottweiller puppy with a kitten sat on his head, I don't know which one frightend my little pup more the size of the dog of the kiten as my cats haven't been easy on him. Then after the walk I got home to discover I had left my keys indoors so another neighbourhad to hold him whilst I broke in. What first trips out with your pets have you to share? Ziggy by the way for those of you who don't know is a border collie pup. Ellie :D

Sounds like you had an eventful first walk with ziggy! I can't imagine how funny a dog with a kitten on it's head would look walking towards you, no wonder it alarmed him a bit!! hehe I hope you didn't have to cause too much damage or anything to break into your house! It sounds as though it's all a bit exciting and maybe a bit scary for him at the moment, but hopefully he enjoyed it and will be eager to go again - he'd be a strange dog if he didn't like going on walkies!! lol xxx

Hi Munchkin, Oh it was so funny, I was so making sure I had got everything I needed for Ziggy, treats, doggy poo sacks etc that I completely forgot my keys silly me. Oh I managed to break in without causing any damaged, believe it or not I'm a dab hand at it, spent years getting through locked neighbours doors for them so mine was a piece of cake really. I took him to the beach for a couple of hours the other day and we all came back thoroughly exhausted, wellies and waterproofs rather than bikini though LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

That's a real talent you've got there Ellie! I wouldn't have a clue how to break into my house!!! Ive left my key behind loads of times though, too busy thinking about other things, fortunately my neighbour and my brother both have a key so i've always managed to get back in again without too much hassle!! I'll bet he loved the beach, but i also bet you had sand everywhere after that trip!! hehe xxxx

When our Jessie was a puppy, she loved to ride in the car and look out the window. And when I first took her for a walk, I did not use a leash so she kept close to me, but every time she saw a tree or a fire hydrant she would run to it and see if there were any dogs around who had left their marks. Oh and she was a friendly dog, the kids would pet her and she liked attention. But as she got older, she got more ambitious and wanted to go off by herself, so we got a leash. One time, she did run through the neighborhood and got lost so a neighbor found her and brought her back, and from then on, she never went out by herself. Oh and she liked bringing things home. She brought this old shoe home once and a doll. I had no idea who it belonged to.

Your welcome. When we lived in Saskatoon, we had a dog called Peanuts (after the comic strip, of course) and Peanuts would always go after my leather things, like my purse and shoes. He would not attack my husband's shoes, only mine. So I guess I have a propensity to adopt dog thieves. Yes and Jessie lived to be about 26 and she spoiled any future dog ownership for us.

Hi Suspenseful, Jessie found the shoe and doll from somewhere, that is so funny, I bet someone is scratching their head thinking I am sure I put that there LOL. I haven't tried Ziggy without the leash yet, I am getting him used to the outside world first before doing that. I think my first attemp at that will be on the beach away from any traffic and see what he does. Dogs really are such characters aren't they. Thanks for sharing. Huggles. Ellie :D

I remember the first walk in the countryside with my pup. I only let him loose when it was a safe area and no one was around. He enjoyed running around and fetching the ball. He was only four months old at that time. Puppies are fun to have. I wish he was with me. Whenever I think of my rough collie I always manage to shed a tear, I guess I am too softie. © ronaldinu 2008

Hi Ronaldinu, That is like most people and animals, big softies the lot of us. I said years ago I would neve get another dog because of the heartache when they go but felt it was unfair for my son not to grow up with one like my girls had. Huggles. Ellie :D

How lovely for you and Ziggy! Sounds like you were so excited about going you locked your keys in - I'm glad you were able to break in without having to call the fire brigade! The dog with the cat hat sounds hilarious - pity you didn't have your camera for that one! When my daughter took her pup on his first walk, she had to carry him home - but he's happy to walk ALL the way now, bless him!

Hi Guybrush, That must have been the reason I left the keys, I was making sure I had his treats, the doggy poop bags etc but not my keys, duh, never mind. I am going to get a pic of may mates dog with the kiten as that was just so funny. Why is it that the camera moments I always don't have a camera on me grrr. I will post when I get a pic. Ziggy did manage it all the way there and back without being carried bless. Huggles. Ellie :D

Cosmo ... - A little cutie.
Ziggy did marvellously! I'm going to try to attach a pic of my daughter's little lad, Cosmo - let's hope it works! He's a little sweetheart, and is now proudly managing his whole walk. Mind you, there are a couple of houses he doesn't like passing because of 'big dogs' - so my daughter has to carry him past those!

Hi my friend Ellie. I am delighted to hear that Ziggy enjoyed his first walk. It was superb that he was happy to walk on the lead and sit and wait before crossing the road. I am not surprised a bus scares him because puppies are often afraid of new sights and experiences. Yes, a Rottweiller puppy with a kitten must have confused Ziggy. Leaving your keys indoors was terrible so it was lucky your neighbor held your puppy whilst you broke it. I got my dog, Secret, in 2004 and my dog, Magic, in 2006. I took Secret to social classes at my local vets and his first walk was round the village we used to live in. People kept stopping to fuss him because he looked so adorable. Magic had Secret to walk with when she was old enough so she picked up behavior from him. I hope that you have some lovely times with Ziggy. Maxine

Oh Maxine, I am so enjoying having Ziggy and so is my son. We took him to the beach for the first time yesterday, wellie boots and waterproofs as wet and breezy but great fun and both my son and Ziggy were exhausted after bless. He loved that though. I think I forgot my keys because I was making sure I had everything for him, bags, treats etc, but will not go without keys again. It is good that Magic had Secret to learn from, does makes it easier but I am going to enrole in some training lessons locally anyway. Ellie :D

You sound like the proud parent of a brand new baby...even if it's the furry kind..LOL. Aww...bet the little guy was scared with the noise especially the buses but I guess with time he'll get used to them. Oh, I bet you just wish you had a camera to photograph that dog with a kitten on top of his head...that must have been funny to see. Well nope, no stories to share here though. Since I've always had indoor cats I've never taken them for a walk. Though years and years ago, when I was only a little girl and we all went on vacations, would take the cats with us...back then actually did take them out for walks, at least the one cat, Friskey..he loved going out

Hi Pyewacket, As it was my friends dog with the kitten I am going to go get a picture as it was so cute but just so funny too especially the size of her dog LOL. Oh yes I am a proud mummy, I took my son and Ziggy to the beach in the rain yesterday for a couple of hours, wellies and waterproof weather but they both came back exhausted but just had so much fun there. Sounds like Friskey enjoyed he walks too as much as you liked taking him, cats, dogs and rabbits all get taken round here. I don't take my own rabbits but some one along the road has a harness for theres and thats funny to see two. Thanks for sharing. Huggles. Ellie :D

Wow!! Ziggy must've been excited. I was a bit scared to take my hyperactive pooch out for the first time. Later I realized she was just as scared. For one thing, I used to let her run around free, and the leash was a bother for her. But I wanted her to learn how to walk on a leash. Surprisingly, she was good as gold, too good actually. :) Cheers and happy mylotting

Oh ellie! How sweet! Poor little Ziggy! His first day out in the big wide world! Hope his next day out is calmer for him! Hope he doesn't see anymore busses or gets used to them soon! I think that is so cute! He was all excited to be a big boy doggie now! He will be ok after a few days of going outside and getting used to all the things he has to see and hear. He will soon be an old pro at going on his daily walks and he will learn to love it! What an adventure he had! I'll be he was all tired out when he got back and wanted to take a nice long nap! I hope all is going well for you and the little one too! I hope things a now settling down and going to school is not so bad now that mummy is home more often. Do take care and give both the little ones a big kiss and hug from Opal will ya?

Hi Opal, It was a real adventure for him, all the new sights and sounds and smells. I am going to take him to the beach for a walk either later today or tomorrow so that will be fun, I wonder how he will be with the waves. He was exhausted yesterday bless but I didn't have to carry him home or anything as some people have had to do with pups. I still have to work another two shifts but have explained to my son and he is okay with it knowing it is just for them and then thats it, I find out Monday whether they have a job during school hours or not for me in a different section. He is one happy little lad now. .............right now my now thinks I'm crazy as I just gave him a hug and kiss from Opal, who? so I explained. He understands myLot language LOL. Thanks for the hugs fotr them both, big huggles back to you. Ellie :D

I am glad that Ziggy liked his big day out and got to walk around to see a little piece of the big world. I bet that Ziggy is adorable. I have heard that Border Collies are great dogs to have! They have good little personalities! I really don't blame him for being a little nervous around buses they are huge, especially to a little pup!!

Hi Aminegtx, Most of the walk was quiet, it was only having to cross one road and then the rest was alleys and lanes. He did do really well, I had him on a leash and he walked really well and will do that until I can trust him to come back. Thanks for advice. Ellie :D

Hi Bmathis, Wow, 5 dogs, you certainly must love animals, I have the dog, two cats, two rabbits fish and stick insects, that is enough for me for now but I had a dream in the night about being given two more dogs to look after but I have no plans to get more. I live in a fairly rural area oo and he will be able to run the two miles of the beach once trained and trusted enough to come back once off of the lead. Ellie :D

Oh Ellie that is such a lovely thing..I am so glad Ziggy is now allowed out now, he really sounds so cute and confident yet I do know with my Pickles when she was a pup she hated traffic of any kind and would cower or have to walk on the other side of me from the road she was a nervous pup anyway but is totally different now so hopefully Ziggy will grow out of his fear of buses as he gets older. The one that got me was the other dog with a kitten on his head! Wow I have heard it all now too both of mine would of made a run to catch it...what a lovely photo that would of been to see if you had been able to get one of it..that is amazing lots of love and Huggles x littleowl

I think it is lovely to see a pup out for a walk, my daughter loves seeing pups so she would have had to have a fuss of Ziggy if she had seen him! I had a dog once, she was a lovely dog, but so naughty. I hated taking her out for a walk, if she saw another dog she would be off, run straight over to play with it. Only she was a rottweiler cross so was big, she would always pick tiny dogs to play with and they did not like it. Their owners liked it even less I used to get into so much trouble.

Hi Gemini, I can imagine the looks on the owners of the little dogs faces when approached by your naughty dog, I wouldn't call it naughty, I would call it playful. I have been very strict with Ziggy from day one though as when I had my two labs Duke was naughty and was like Hudini too and would escape and take himself for walks, you could see him grinning when found though, such characters eh! Huggles. Ellie :D
