Can you hold big spiders?

I was in a dressing room when I found this very big domestic spider. I had goosebumps because I have a fear of spiders. I see a lot kids holding big spiders in their hands and they play with it. They even make a box house for their spiders and prepare them for spider fighting or derbies. It's a game actually for kids here. These kids hunt for aggressive and tough fighting spiders in bushes and trees. What if the spiders were venomous and dangerous? I just can't touch or hold spiders, and they look really weird. Same as with other arachnids. How about you?

I would prefer NOT to hold one djoyce! But I guess I would give it a go if I ever was offered the chance. I don't like the thought of it at all but having a massive tarantula crawl over my hands would be a great story to share! Generally speaking though I would much prefer to admire them from afar with them in a tank or something and me outside!

Oh, I do hate spiders..... I don't see a lot of spiders in USA. The super big spiders in England were my nightmare.......Also the bog mosqitoes.....Are you sure the kids hold the real spiders?? I saw one little boy play with a fake spider...Are they toys?

Spider fighting is no better than dog fighting and those kids should be severely reprimanded. As to whether i can hold them though, yes I love spiders, particularly big ones. little ones are okay but I keep my distance from them as I am visually impaired and it's hard to tell what they're doing. But big ones I can both see and feel. The thing with big ones is that most of them are not venomous and those that are, like tarantuals, generally aren't potent enough to kill a human unless they are alergic to the venom. And tarantulas, even wild ones, almost never bite.

I don't like spiders. They look so scary but my friend has a spider as a pet.He bought it from ebay. He keeps it in a box and feeds it everyday. Some people like to keep very strange aminals maybe because it is unique and thus precious.

hi djoyce71, I am afraid of large, black spiders that I am just content to watch them from afar and would not go near it. But, I am not afraid of small spiders. I remember when I was young, I have little boy cousins who would go everywhere and love the adventure to look for little spiders for spider fighting. It's when I learned not to be afraid with little spiders. They look small and harmless, and even when they fight with fellow spiders, they are not scary to look at. It just amazed me how a spider won and other spider fled from the fight and flung slings down for escape. LoovesAmethyst

No I cannot. No I will not. It would give me a giant case of the wiggins. I don't think I could tolerate one being a pet in my home. Hopefully that will never happen. Anti-spider over here, thank you.

Are you kidding me, NEVER! I'm not afraid of snakes, reptiles, or other animals but I hate spiders!! My boys used to laugh when I tried to kill a spider because I would have a weapon and when I swung to kill it, I would scream. Of course I would miss and they would have to do it!

Hey there! I can hold them as long as they are not venomous. I have a pet spider and mind you it is huge. It's as big as my palm when it spread its long arms. It's a very venomous spider. I let it live in our mango tree. It's web is very strong that it even caught a small bird. I feed it once a week with common house lizard. I posted a reminder near our mango tree, "WARNING!! venomous spider!"

yes, I have and they are very useful in killing other insects and I have no fear of spiders. Spiders keep the insect population under control.. They serve a purpose.

I can handle small spiders but big ones I'd rather not. Fighting spiders found in bushes are small so I can handle that. I used to watch the boys in the neighborhood play with fighting spiders and I used to tag along with my brothers in finding spiders and we put them in matchboxes and let them drink milk :) Now, I don;t like the spiders to be played with because they are really friendly creatures which help the farmers in controlling some pests.
